Invitation to Paradise

June 9th, 2009 @ 3:56 pm by Mrs. Piglet

Before getting engaged, (admittedly) I was one of those girls that perused the internet shamefully looking at pictures of weddings galore, thinking of ways to somehow incorporate those beautiful details into our wedding someday. But it was never the wedding gowns, or floral centerpieces that I swooned over… no siree…

It was all the beautiful paper products the brides (and grooms) created themselves! If you couldn’t tell already, I’ve delayed making decisions on reception decor, all things floral, ceremony details, etc., and channeled all my energy into the invitations for the past month. Way to go, Piglet! But DIYing invitations was near and dear to my heart, so the Mr let me be. I assured him I would handle those other details… later… and I guess later is now. :)

Anyhoot, I experienced my first lows of wedding planning during the invitation printing process, and also felt the ultimate high after hearing the compliments from our parents and a handful of guests on a job well done. Handful meaning 2 or 3, and that was enough for me!

And here they are folks! The invitation suite includes the ceremony/reception announcement, a trifold with information on wedding week activities and driving directions to the ceremony, and finally, the reply card. Pretty straightforward, yah? I can hear my family in Hawaii appending ‘yah’ to all of their sentences in their pigeon accent. I love it!

suite

Paying homage to Bradda Iz. We Goccoed the floral embellishment on the outer envelope, and the addresses were done using the DIY ‘fake me out’ calligraphy trick. Genius!

outerenvelope

Although extremely random, I included our wiener dog Georgia May, anywhere I could on our wedding stuff. We have this Picasso drawing framed in my parents’ house. This was Goccoed on the back of the outer envelope, and the front of the reply envelope.

outerenvelope_back

We used the same pattern from the main invitation for our envelope liners.

envelopeliner

The leftover envelope liner scrap paper was punched into luggage tags, and tied in front of the belly band with hemp twine and embroidery thread. We added eyelets to the luggage tags to give it a more polished look.

suite_1

The luggage tag in the back is Goccoed with a passport stamp I created using the tutorial Mrs Sushi’s used for her Passport Save the Dates.

Here’s a closer look at our trifold.

And the front of our reply card.

I still have to go through my files, saved links, images, receipts, etc. so I can share the fonts, images, and tutorials used for our invites.

More details to come!

WHOA! Man, are these amazing. I just don’t even know what to say!!! If only a handful of your guests have said something, it’s because people who don’t DIY don’t know how much time, work, money, love, and effort goes into something like this. You did an amazing job!!!!!

@Mrs. Penguin: I will! Unfortunately, all the goods are in LA, and I’m back in VA for the b-party festivities. I’ll detail it all out… promise. :) We had them digitally print, cut, scored at a print shop in Burbank. The quality was pretty nice!

@Rocío: Sure thing! I’ll be sure to take a picture once I return to LA. We used tombow adhesive to tape the ends of the belly band. The color tone is a bit darker where the ends are adhered. Not too bad though.

@AmberWaves: Yay for Hawaii brides! :)

@Nothing But Bonfires: We used a craft punch. I had no idea one existed until I came across it at Michael’s. Thank goodness! That would’ve been a lot of cutting.

@miss mouse: The eyelets are from Michaels, and I had a lot from years ago (also purchased from Michaels).

@Staceyrp: Glad I could help!

@Laurlyn, @WorstTwinEver15,@Mint Mary: I used Adobe Illustrator to create each page of the trifold. Then, my bridesmaid made everything print ready for me and put it in InDesign. I’ll try to do a write-up very soon!

@cnt wt 2 b mauid: Congratulations on your engagement! I’ll share all our details! and I’d be happy to help as much as I can!

@ to everyone else: thank you so much!!! everyone’s kind words makes all our hard work so worth it in the end. <3
