My Obagi Journey: Week 6

June 9th, 2009 @ 2:29 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Day 1
Week 2

This has been my 6th week on the Obagi Nu-Derm system. I continue to be happy with the results! Only when I look at my day 1 picture do I realize how much my skin has changed. My skin tone is much more even, however, Obagi seems to have a “bleaching” effect, so my skin is an entire shade lighter than it used to be, which is kind of strange to me. (I also have taken care to stay out of the sun, so of course that might have a bit to do with my lighter skin.)

I wasn’t careful enough to avoid my mouth area when applying the creams, and I’ve had this pretty bad scab on the left side of my mouth for weeks that has had a hard time healing, because every time I open my mouth the wound reopens. Ouch!

One downside is that my skin is incredibly prone to redness right now (you can see it a bit above; I have a zit right off camera of my week 6 picture). If I so much as scratch my skin, it turns red for 20 minutes or so. But my freckles and sunspots have almost disappeared entirely!

It’s pretty exciting seeing these close ups and realizing that my freckles are disappearing and my skin tone is evening out. The regimen (4 steps, morning and night) is a bit tedious. Before I was on the system, I’d just wash my face and keep a tub of moisturizer by my bed, where I’d slather it on right before I fell asleep. I have to do this entire regimen standing up… and I haaaate doing things like moving, standing, or exerting energy in general.

I’m going to go another 6 weeks, and then give myself a rest from the chemicals. I wish I had found this before I got married! I still don’t think I have anything close to flawless skin, but a light dusting of Bare Minerals really makes me feel like I have AMAZING skin, which is a lot to say coming from me, as I’ve never been happy with my skin. It’s really exciting!

What do you think? Can you see a difference? What’s your miracle skin product?

I can see the difference, but I’m always jealous of people with freckles so it makes me a little sad to see yours go. The product is definately working though, and it’s amazing you’re sticking to something that intense.

Congrats on the great results thus far.

I agree–I think your skin looks nice, but that it also looks great in the first photo!

Thank you for sharing. A friend of mine is a plastic surgeon and when I was asking him (just in random email) about whether I should get a chemical peel or micro to treat some fine lines and acne scars, oh and freckles, he was not keen on suggesting any of them, and he’s a plastic surgeon! but rather he recommended Obagi but by this time I had my first two micro treatments and bought Skinceuticals. However, your results have convinced me that Obagi is certainly worth a try.

Which products are you using?

@mizunoheaven: I’m on Obagi Nu-Derm and Tretinoin cream at night. Other than that, just lots of sunblock!

I’ve been using MD skincare alpha beta daily face peel. So far its been working great. I think cause of the wedding I’ve been breaking out from the stress. Its gotten my face back to normal and leaves my skin more balanced/toned. Like you it has a morning and night process. Its a two-step wipe pad (i cut the pad in half since the product is so damn expensive) and then use a serum.

You look great! I am loving these posts. Saving up to try it out myself. How long of a break do you take at week 12?

@alaud41: You can just use it indefinitely I hear but I think it’s far too expensive for me :( I will probably go off it for 6-8 months and then go back on it, but I def. can’t do it forever, because I can’t afford it!

I think you look great! I’m about to go on an anti (sun, wrinkle, lines) everything journey in a little while too.

Your skintone looks so fresh and the freckles are fading, but I always thought you were pretty anyway :)

wow is it a concern then, that it makes your skin sorta sensitive?

@mrspaetz: I would say definitely. My skin (pre obagi) was not sensitive, and now it is. I assume this sensitivity will go away when I’m not actively using the Rx part of the program (Tretinoin) but only time will tell, and I will let you know!

I have to agree with some of the others above–I really love your freckles (jealous). I kind of think you look younger with them!
