A Second (Third?) Dress…?

June 10th, 2009 @ 4:54 pm by Mrs. Cheese

Argh. You might recall that I bought two wedding dresses and way back when, y’all helped me decide which one to wear to our wedding. It was perfect. I loved, loved, loved it, and was secretly looking forward to wearing it again at our hometown reception. I mean, who doesn’t want a second shot at wearing a dress that makes their waist look tiny, tush look proportionate, and keeps the boobage under control? Plus, the bustle swished around my legs like frothy water. I felt like Ursula the Sea Witch, but in a good way.

Happy sigh.

However, our hometown reception is in Southern New Mexico near the height of summer — July 4th weekend. Aside from the fact that my beloved dress is way too much for a casual reception, it’ll be WAY too hot to trudge around in it for a whole evening.

I have to find another dress. You all gave Miss Mary Jane such great suggestions that I thought I’d ask you for help as well. Here’s the catch: I’m short (5 foot) and busty (30F), and our reception is in about three weeks. I’d love something as equally sassy as my wedding dress. A short dress would be nice and cool, but (much like a six year old) my legs are perpetually covered in bug bites and scratches, so maybe a long dress would be better.

Ooh, and if I could wear one of my mom’s boleros with it, even better!

I’m not even sure it has to be white. What do you think? Got any ideas?

Oooo, go with a bright pop of color! Something sassy and strapless, that’ll let your mom’s awesome bolero(s) stand out!

Have you looked at White House Black Market? I have a large chest too and I LOVE their dresses.
Dress 1, Dress 2
or Nordstrom
Dress 3, Dress 4 - This one MAY be lighter than the dress you already have :)

What do you think? Pop color, maxi but lightweight, would look good with the bolero you’re wearing in the picture.

Hopefully you’ll get this on Wednesday- Bluefly is doing an additional 10% off today (June 10)

I second White House/Black Market - they have some cute white dresses out right now.

(as a side notes: i’m jealous you’re going to be down in the Cruces area…please eat some delicious green chile, preferably from Chopes, for me!)

Miss French Bulldog - I actually bought that first dress from White House Black Market as my second dress!!

I looooved my Saint Patrick wedding dress and wanted to wear it all night, but decided very last minute that I wouldn’t be able to dance with my dad in my heavy/lacy dress. So I bought this short, sleeveless dress and I was so glad I did!! It made dancing much more easier and it was great when I partied down at the end of the night!!

@DrDazey: What a great idea… you have me thinking I may need a second dress for dancing. We’re taking dancing lessons and I would to actually be able to dance at my wedding. I’m hoping my dress wont get in the way :-/

Dress 1
Dress 2
Dress 3
Dress 4
Also, have you checked out Kathlin Argiro? Although their dresses take 6-8 weeks to make, you may be able to email them and see what they can do :)

Oh a sweet white sun dress (I feel like I see them everywhere right now) would be so darling and summery and romantic!

I know some others have suggested White House Black Market already, but I wanted to add that I’m relatively short (5′3) and I have a 30G chest, and I’ve always been successful in fitting into their dresses. They must cut them in a way that allows for a bigger bust… Good luck!
