WHERE WE HAD LEFT OFF:

After the ceremony finished, Mr. Shortcake and I stood together outside in the pouring, freezing rain. The sky had opened up its black clouds and it was absolute misery. But, the bells on our two hundred year old chapel were ringing, and we were married. Married! Woot! Woot!
For those of you who have commented on how serene I appeared in photos, here’s a candid that’s a little more indicative of my emotions during the beginning of the day:

Quick! Someone tell that bride not to hike her hoops up so high! ![]()
The original plan had been to take family and group photos in the gardens next to the church. With the monsoon upon us, however, plans were diverted, and everyone was ushered into a nearby hall/gymnasium - the least desirable place to stage our family portraits.
Luckily, one end of the hall was devoid of basketball hoops and stacked chairs, and after opening the curtains became a passable location. Sigh. The best laid plans of brides, eh?

We held a receiving line at the entrance to the hall, and greeted each of our guests in turn.

I would have preferred not to have had a line at all, but it was nice to not feel pressured to greet each table at our reception.

Taking the family portraits was tough. I was emotionally and physically exhausted, and at one point I almost fainted. Word of advice - if you eat breakfast at five in the morning, you WILL need to eat something before your three o’clock ceremony! Yikes!
After the portraits were finished, we excused our guests, and prepared to leave St. George’s for our wedding party pictures.

The wind was howling by then, and the temperature was hovering around zero. As Mr. Shortcake’s Nana put it, “What a terrible, terrible day for a wedding!” We had bought matching umbrellas for the entire wedding party, but because the winds were so fierce, we were unable to use them very much.

My bridesmaids managed to withstand the elements long enough to get a shot in front of my MOH’s then-boyfriend’s 1950s Bel Air:

Luckily, my bridesmaids were fierce, too!
