About Mrs. Shortcake

WHERE WE HAD LEFT OFF:

NOTE: As usual, my recap photos are from a variety of sources. All post-processing has been done by me with each individual’s consent and permission.

***

After the ceremony finished, Mr. Shortcake and I stood together outside in the pouring, freezing rain. The sky had opened up its black clouds and it was absolute misery. But, the bells on our two hundred year old chapel were ringing, and we were married. Married! Woot! Woot!

For those of you who have commented on how serene I appeared in photos, here’s a candid that’s a little more indicative of my emotions during the beginning of the day:

1

Quick! Someone tell that bride not to hike her hoops up so high! ;)

The original plan had been to take family and group photos in the gardens next to the church. With the monsoon upon us, however, plans were diverted, and everyone was ushered into a nearby hall/gymnasium - the least desirable place to stage our family portraits. :P Luckily, one end of the hall was devoid of basketball hoops and stacked chairs, and after opening the curtains became a passable location. Sigh. The best laid plans of brides, eh?

2

{ my extended family }

We held a receiving line at the entrance to the hall, and greeted each of our guests in turn.

3

I would have preferred not to have had a line at all, but it was nice to not feel pressured to greet each table at our reception.

4

{ Mr. Shortcake’s extended family }

Taking the family portraits was tough. I was emotionally and physically exhausted, and at one point I almost fainted. Word of advice - if you eat breakfast at five in the morning, you WILL need to eat something before your three o’clock ceremony! Yikes!

After the portraits were finished, we excused our guests, and prepared to leave St. George’s for our wedding party pictures.

5

The wind was howling by then, and the temperature was hovering around zero. As Mr. Shortcake’s Nana put it, “What a terrible, terrible day for a wedding!” We had bought matching umbrellas for the entire wedding party, but because the winds were so fierce, we were unable to use them very much.

6

My bridesmaids managed to withstand the elements long enough to get a shot in front of my MOH’s then-boyfriend’s 1950s Bel Air:

7

Luckily, my bridesmaids were fierce, too! ;)

I love the moment when you hike up your dress and your bridesmaid is helping you get to cover!
It looks like you were surrounded by some very spunky, happy, glowing friends and family! Which is all a bride needs to have a great day! You looked beautiful!

Where did you find the adorable umbrellas? Love the shot of them in front of the Bel Air!

And my eye’s just drawn to you in your wonderfully poofy dress in the family portraits.

The umbrellas are inspired! And that last pic is practically professional. Way to make the most with what you’ve got - obviously great family & friends :)

I think you’ve done an amazing job with what you got! You were really dealt a bad hand, and yet, let’s face it, you were glowing anyway!

I am loving the pink striped umbrellas, such a cute touch! And I’m glad to hear you had a receiving line because I plan on having one as well.

Great to see you back Mrs Shortcake!

I so appreciate your recaps, and have been eagerly looking out for them. As a Vancouver bride myself, (and also fearing rain and multiple mishaps,) it’s really encouraging to know that despite everything, all that matters is that you got married.

And you look beautiful!

Mrs Shortcake, I love the idea of family portraits! But this post is also fun for me to read because one of the reasons I started reading Weddingbee when I got engaged last July is because my friend Kristina (who I spy in the picture of Mr Shortcake’s extended family) knew you were blogging for it and told me to check it out. Where would I be in my planning without Weddingbee? Anyway, your photos are fantastic and I’m loving your recaps!
