About Mrs. Latte

Can we be friends? Please?

XOXO,
Miss Latte

For months, I drooled over my non-friends’ shoe lines, dreaming that a brand new pair of wedding shoes would magically appear on my doorstep. It took me some time to wake up out of dreamland, but once I did, I quickly jumped into a massive search for the perfect pair of shoes to wear on the big day. I didn’t really have a clear vision of what I wanted the shoes to look like, but I did know one thing… they had to be pink.

I absolutely love the colored shoe trend, and was eager to jump on the bandwagon with my own pair of stylin’ pink lovelies. It was actually harder than I thought… so, one night, in desperation (and enticed by a 30% off sale), I bought this pair of J.Crew shoes in ivory:

The search for the perfect pair continued for a couple of months before I started to lose steam. And that’s when I read Mrs. Martini’s post on her beautifully dyed shoes. They looked AMAZING and I was immediately sold. I took my ivory satin shoes to T.O. Dey, where I was presented with a binder full of tiny little swatches of dye colors. After a couple of minutes, we decided on a pink that was close to the shade of the pink suspenders Mr. Latte will be wearing for the wedding.

After 2 weeks, I returned to pick them up. I excitedly walked up to the counter, opened the box and almost cried. No, not the good kind. The shoes were a way-too-bright, need-to-put-on-some-sunglasses, are-they-pink-or-are-they-red, I-can’t-wear-these-on-my-wedding-day color. I expressed my disappointment to the guy, and he took them away with the promise to attempt to re-dye them to a color that would more closely match the suspenders.

Another 2 weeks passed by and I went back to the store. I braced myself for the worst, opened the box and let out a huge sigh of relief. They still weren’t the exact same shade of pink as the suspenders, but they were close enough.

But upon closer inspection, I noticed a patch of discoloration, and some black specks on the shoes. Apparently, some satin does not take dye very well, and (of course) mine fall under that category. So beware, hive. Ask before dying!

I think the guy sensed my unhappiness because he told me to bring them back after the wedding to get them dyed black for free. Done. I figure that on wedding day, no one will get close enough to the shoes to see all the imperfections. And for pictures, Todd will be able to work his post-processing magic to make them perfect.

Do you plan on having shoes dyed for your wedding? How important is it to you that your shoes match your color scheme?

Love your shoes! And even if they started out perfect and blemish-free on the wedding day, they’d most likely be a little soiled by the end…so fret not! :-)

Oh, those are adorable shoes! I’m starting my search now for some cute light pink pumps, and it’s becoming harder than I thought it’d be.

I’m glad you posted this. I love those JCrew shoes and was thinking about getting them, but I want them to be olive green.. it’s good to know that you *can* dye them, even if it might not work perfectly!

cute shoes. No one will ever see those spots in the photos. I doubt your photographer will even notice them when he goes to do post-processing.

wow, that’s such an ingenious idea!
I don’t think anyone will be able to notice the little specks on the big day - I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out!

I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one that was in search of pink shoes. I even posted them on the board.

Are those shoes comfortable? I’ve been googling all day for shoes, either ivory or pale pink or grey. I found 1 WB post on comfortable wedding-day shoes, but the general consensus there was to go for the designer ones. I am at a loss, since I wear sneakers for work EVERY DAY. Help?

i purchased dyable shoes as well and was kinda on the fence about dying it blue or silver but after reading your post i’m reluctant to do it now! my dress is white and so are my shoes. so i’m just leaving them as is.

I think they look amazing!

I am having the hardest time finding shoes. I want bright pink shoes with a low heel - around 2 inches. If anyone has ideas please let me know. Also, does anyone have experience with Lela Rose line for Payless? There’s a pair on there that I like, but they don’t have the exact color I’m looking for. I might buy them and then take them somewhere else to be dyed/

@princetonbride - Stewart Weitzman has some yummy fuschia and magenta peep toes (2.75 in. heel), but they are definitely pricey! I’m still debating whether to splurge.

I think they turned out great! Thank God they redyed them for you :)
I’m still debating my shoes… I have a pair of yellow shoes, but I want a brighter pair or a pair of aqua shoes, but then I don’t want to spend money I don’t need to :-/

Cute shoes! And please trust that no one will notice the little dots or the fact that they aren’t the exact same shade as the suspenders–they’ll be too focused on the Latte’s love at your sure-to-be beautiful wedding. But way to have an attention for detail!

sigh! i have to walk by Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin boutiques in a mall around my work, EVERY DAY. It’s painful, especially when i’m not getting new shoes for the wedding *big sulk*

Your shoes are fab and very cute! don’t worry about the minor discoloration — no one will even notice!

Oh, they turned out fantastic! Your wedding is going to be beautiful! I wouldn’t stress too much about the imperfections or the color, no one’s going to notice much. Congratulations!

I thought that nobody would notice that I wore blue shoes… but sooo many people complimented me on the tiny touch (at the reception, post-bustle). I think people will notice and love that you are styling in pink, but nobody will notice the blemishes! Just the thought and creativity!

I don’t think anyone will notice the imperfections and I think the color is great. You’ll look beautiful! You may want to spray them with some kind of waterproof spray. My seamstress advised that I not dye my shoes and that if I did that I use something to fix the color so it wouldn’t come off on my dress.
