Hello, hive! I’m so thrilled and honored to be a bee! I’ve been (obsessively) reading Weddingbee since last September, and I honestly can’t believe I’m the newest bee.
I chose Miss Mouse because my whole life I have been the quiet, shy one. In kindergarten I was so shy that I refused to say the pledge of allegiance or answer “here” for the roll call! I’ve developed considerably more social skills since then, but I still tend to be the quiet one, especially when I’m around new people. Don’t worry, I loosen up pretty quickly. 
So, a little about me and my future intended…
I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, aside from a six-week program in Oxford when I was in college and a seven-week internship in Chicago during law school. (Can you really say you “lived” somewhere if it was only for six weeks? I doubt it.) Although I don’t fit in with most Texans, Austin has been my home for the past eight years, and I love it. It’s like a crazy liberal oasis in the middle of red-state desert.
I graduated from law school two weeks ago, and since then I’ve been studying for the bar exam at the end of July. Oh yeah, and I’ve been planning this wedding! Luckily I’ve been planning slowly over the past 18 months, so there shouldn’t be too much last-minute panic. In theory.
My fiance, who from here on out will be referred to as “the Dude”,* is originally from Nebraska, but has also spent most of his life in Texas. He lived in Los Angeles for two years before I met him, and I’m constantly trying to convince him that we need to move there together! He is a civil engineer, but he’d much rather be playing his guitar or blogging about college football than designing bridges and highways. He is the laziest person I know that still manages to have his life together. He’s also the sweetest, most thoughtful person that I’ve ever met. I can’t imagine my life without him!
We’ve been together for five years, and we’ve lived together three of those. Marriage won’t be too much of a change for us, but we absolutely cannot wait to share our wedding day with our friends and family.
*Since I’m not changing my name after we get married, I decided that my fiance will not be called Mr. Mouse–it’s only fair!

I cannot imagine planning a wedding while studying for the bar exam! That dang exam about killed me. More power to you!

So, can I assume the Dude is a Husker fan? Because ever since I moved to Nebraska it has been impressed upon me that Nebraska = Husker fan = a fan for life no matter where they move. ^_^

Hi Miss Mouse! We have quite a lot in common, since I am also the shy-until-you-get-to-know-me type, have a British accent, and live in Chicago!
And, as someone who got married in a park in London, looking forward to seeing your ‘English garden’ wedding! Hope it involves tea and Pimms!

Studying for the bar isn’t that bad. When I studied for the Texas bar, I took golf lessons . . . helped me with a schedule (and made me get up in the mornings). Doing the wedding planning might be a good break from Oil & Gas, Family Law, Procedure, Evidence, Torts, Contracts, Constitutional Law, and Trusts/Wills! Enjoy the whole experience!
Welcome welcome… this will be fun… I second the whole move to Cali thing. But I am partial since I’m a SoCal girl. And ‘go blue’! (As in UCLA, as in democratic state…. ah hermmm….) =o) Wow this hive is a playful bunch… ;o)

Be careful! The year I took the bar, a classmate planned her August wedding while studying - and unfortunately - didn’t pass. Just really make sure you respect the exam and give your studying priority - not as much fun as wedding planning - but definitely better than taking the bar twice

Congrats on graduating and good luck with the bar! I’m about to enter law school and (hopefully) plan a wedding during my 1L year (as much as I can). Hat’s off to you doing it during the bar! Can’t wait to hear more about your wedding.

@chicagowife: I know the hive is a diverse place full of all types of people and viewpoints–that’s part of what I love about it! I only brought up the “blue state” thing because I thought it would share a bit about who I am with you guys.

Miss Mouse, I am so jealous of you living in Austin. My plan was to get married in Austin so I am soooo excited to be reading your blog. And for a music fan, you’re definitely in the right place, LIVE MUSIC CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. I grew up in texas and I’m about as liberal as I can get. so i hear ya! My fiance and I are planning to move to ATX in a few years! See you around, maybe at an aclfest or 2 lol.

Austin City Limits Fest is a ton of fun. I don’t think we’re going to go this year, but it’s seriously the best! SXSW is really great, too. There’s so much good live music here! You guys should definitely make the move!
