When thinking of gifts to give each other for our anniversary, we both tried to stick to the traditional 1st year gift theme of paper (anniversary gifts by year).

Before I tell you what Mr. T’s gift to me was, I should explain that it is usually very hard for him to buy gifts for me. I think I have some sort of ESP that only applies to Mr. Toucan. I always guess what my gifts are. This time, I had absolutely no idea until about 30 seconds beforehand.

Sometime during the 3rd inning of the Red Sox/Texas Rangers game on Sunday (also, tickets are paper!), all of a sudden the Mister grabbed my camera, gave it to my friend, and said, “Take a picture of us.”

This was weird because, we already had taken about 10 pictures of us earlier in the game. It got more weird when Jess kept taking pictures. Like about 10 in a row.

Mr. Toucan kept looking back behind him. And then it hit me.

“Wait! Did you…?”

(I turned around about 10 seconds too soon)

“You did!”

Did you catch it?! Let’s take a closer look!

And then after the 20 or so “dud” pictures before, we got the one with our names on the sign!

The Mister is planning on getting this framed for me (pictures are paper!) so we can hang it.

Along with the picture of us at the Red Sox game, we’re planning on getting anniversary pictures taken. We’ve talked about it a lot before, about how we wanted to have pictures of us taken every year around our anniversary (and when we have a family, it will turn into family portraits every year). This way we can look back and have at least one good picture of us at each year of our lives together.

We have SO many pictures from our wedding, so we don’t want to spend a ton (we’re still in on the hunt for a photographer), but you’ll see (check out my Weddingbee profile picture!) how different I look even after 1 year!

For your first anniversary, are you planning on doing the traditional paper gifts, or are you doing something more modern?
