Something to Get Excited About

June 10th, 2009 @ 11:10 am by Mrs. Joey

So I said in my last post that it’s been hard to get excited about anything, but that’s a bold faced lie. I can get excited about something — the honeymoon. Mr. Joey and I are going to the land of the Joeys a few days after the wedding, and frankly, I can’t wait. No wedding plans, can’t do anything about the house, no cell phone or email — absolute bliss. We thought about a long leisurely vacation on a beach somewhere but then we thought we’d be bored after a few days. Well, he would. I could see myself hanging out on the beach and reading for a long while.

So, what’s got my panties all in a bunch (in a good way)? The activities we have planned. We plan on heading north to spend 2 days and 1 night snorkeling on (or is it at?) the Barrier Reef. I can’t wait! We’re also doing a massive train trip from Cairns to Brisbane aboard the Sunlander to see some of the country the old fashion way. I love trains and I especially love trains when I have a private 1st class cabin. Once we get to Brisbane there is the possibility of cuddling koalas and feeding real joeys at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Koalas — here I come.

We have some time scheduled for Sydney and few other places. For now, the big reservations have been made and we can worry about the rest later. I’m happy to get this big chunk of planning off my plate.

An interesting thing I’ve discovered through honeymoon planning is using the Amazon.com universal registry (see Ms. D’orsay’s post) to register for honeymoon events. I know there are a bunch of websites where you can register for honeymoon activities, but it’s nice to have it all in one place. We registered for tickets to the Refuge and tickets to see Aida at the Sydney Opera House. We think both events would be absolutely amazing gifts, but we won’t cry about it if they aren’t purchased. We’ll probably purchase the tickets to the refuge, anyway.

Did you register for honeymoon activities? If so, which activity was your favorite?

Miss Joey, you must, I repeat you MUST go to Lone Pine! I went a couple of months ago when I won a trip to Brisbane on the radio. It was by far the best thing we did there and it was a great time! I loved it… the koalas are like holding a heavy stuffed animal and feeding the ‘Roos & Joey’s is so fun!

We rgistered for honeymoon stuff instead of any household stuff. I think I’m most excited about the candlelite cruise dinner.
Your Australian vacation sounds like a blast!

@Soon2BeeMrsLewis:

Well the ones I held at whichever zoo it was I went to (Sydney?) did! I have a friend who lived in Oz for 3 months as well and she agrees.

Hopefully Miss Joey will be lucky!

Isn’t it going to be cold in Australia when you go in August? It will be the middle of winter there!

@keyedontie: It’s always summer somewhere in Australia. That’s why we’re headed north.

This might sound ridiculous, but if you’re hankering for a late night snack one night (or breakfast one morning!) check out the Pancake Manor in Brissie - 18 Charlotte St. It’s SOOOO good. I lived in Brisbane for about 5 months in college, and this and the South Beach Parkland is what I miss the most! It is such a fabulous little city, and Soon2BeMrsLewis is right, Lone Pine is awesome - just be warned that the koala might poop in your hand! haha. Seriously, you have chosen my dream honeymoon locale, enjoy every minute!!! (We’ll be going in about 10 years when we can afford it, haha.)

Miss joey, unfortunately its always summer everywhere in Australia! :) I live here, its currently winter and its still sweaty-weather! Its beautiful though, and Im sure you’ll enjoy every minute of it. I live about half an hour from brisbane. Your coming in August, so it will be almost spring.. Im sure it wont be half as cold as what your used to in American winters!
I hope you love Australia.

Miss Joey - I’m an Aussie girl, living in Brisbane, and my partner is from Cairns. I’d love to suggest (if you have a chance, that is!) that you have a look at the “Crystal Cascades” up there. It’s one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to, along with the beaches at Palm Cove! :) There’s more on Crystal Cascades (and other Cairns attractions) here: http://www.cairnsattractions.com/a_crystal-cascades.php

P.S. And yes, the Pancake Manor here in Brisbane is AMAZING! :D
