Oh my, hive!

I feel like I am jumping through hurdles right now. This is the height of my busy season for my job. I am now traveling four days per week. I’m beat. I’m tired of traveling, and I’ve still got to plan a wedding. It took us a month to schedule the appointments with our minister because she’s pretty busy, and I’m never home!

When I am home, I spend time running errands and making a feeble attempt at actually relaxing. Sometimes I actually get some work done. I will say that I am glad that I have stuck to my “Keep it Simple” mantra and that has allowed me to not have an exhaustive list of to-dos. Planning ahead during last fall truly helped. I also have to give a big shout to Mr. Swan who has been holding down the fort at home and has been extremely helpful.

Sorry to B%#*% and moan. I know I am not the only one out there that has something crazy going on while trying to plan their wedding.

For those of you having major life things going on right now (e.g., a busy job, buying a house, studying for the bar exam or any other major professional exam, moving), how are you maintaining your energy and life balance and making sure that things get done for the wedding?

I’m not handling in well at all. We’ve had some er disscussions about it. I do not handle change well. Plannning a wedding on a tight budget, selling my condo in a down market and moving into his condo after the wedding is driving me crazy. I’m exhausted and that makes me not a great person to be around.

I am handling it okay, not great, but better than I expected. We are planning a wedding with little money, and we are parents to a 14 month old who is teething, and discovering the power of temper tantrums. We are also preparing our home to sell, so that means lots of little DIY house projects on top of wedding DIY projects. I have learned, it’s best to keep it simple, and let the little things you can’t control go. I am not the best at asking for help, as I know everyone else has other things going on in their lives, then my wedding. However, what I have also learned is, you would be surprised who is willing to help, and that sometimes all you have to do is ask.

I think I’m keeping sane because wedding planning and blogging is my break from work and studying for the bar. That said, I haven’t really buckled down on bar studying yet. When my job ends (2 more weeks), I’m hoping to really push. Good luck with work and wedding planning.

I’m uh… not handling it well. I end up doing work at home. wedding stuff at work. home stuff when i should be doing wedding stuff. school stuff not nearly often enough. My life is all jumbled up, and not nearly enough’s getting done!

Ohh we are house hunting right now, and wedding planning got put on hold, it is one of the advantages of a long engagement. I actually use wedding planning as a breather from house hunting. Everything else in life is getting pushed aside for now, it’s kind of overwhelming. My fi just reminds me to breathe and its all good stuff thats happening.

I agree with Miss MJ - I feel like I’m doing only part of everything on my plate and not a very good job at that! You’re not alone, Miss Swan :)

Yeah - not really handling, just flying by the seat of my pants. Working on my PhD in gerontology, and I have my qualifying exams for 2 weeks in August, then I have to defend them Sept., then a month until the wedding. I’m also working on my part-time MBA, so good thing I’m not taking a summer class for that…!

I travel 1-2 weeks/month, and with two months before our wedding, I’m in major panic mode. However, every once in a while, I take a day off from wedding planning. I find that not thinking about the wedding for a bit, helps me organize and think more clearly later on. Also, I’ve begun to prioritize…what needs to get done vs. what would be nice to get done. I’ve come to terms that my wedding won’t be perfect, and that is okay. Our wedding will be a reflection of the rest of our lives–far from perfect, but oh so fun! Breathe deep ladies!

I’m making sure to put more time into working out as the day gets closer. While I hate it, I do feel amazing when I’m done, and I think it’s helping w/ the stress.. so cliche… :|

Hang in there Miss Swan!
