Initial Thoughts

Hanging initials are all the rage right now. I’ve seen so many cute styles out there!

Somehow, I thought something like this, from Martha Stewart’s webite, would be easier.

Darn you, Martha! You conned me again!

I purchased some wired floral vine from a gift shop in Mr. Bunny’s hometown when we visited a few weekends ago. That night, as FMIL Bunny and I watched chick-flick Australia, I bent and twisted and snipped and wrapped the letters with wire to create this:

1

Making the wired letters was a pain in the butt! I had such a hard time making them take the shape I wanted and spacing out the flowers the right way. It didn’t help that the floral vine was really short and I had to use two to three sections to make one letter. I actually made an “L”, too, but I haven’t hung it on ribbon yet.

Here’s a close up showing the crazy wire wrapping that I had to do to shape the letter.

2

When I finished and held it up to the light, I realized I probably should have used green floral wire instead of shiny silver wire. It would have been WAY less noticeable. But there was no way that I was about to go back and re-wrap the letters after spending an entire 3 hour movie on them!

Now for the question: “L” is both of our first initials and “R” is my future last initial. Is it silly to have just the two letters? Should I have made two “L”s for both of our first names? Should I make an extra “L” so all the letters in our monogram are represented? As always, your thoughts are appreciated!

Miss Bunny, as always, your DIY efforts crack me up! I think you do you want 2 L’s so that your monogram is LRL unless you’re a nerd, then you can do L^2 R. Yes L squared, LOL. OK don’t do that. I think it looks really nice though and I doubt anyone will get so close as to notice the wire.

I think it’s really sweet and whimsical. I would do LRL.

Yeah, I agree with the two “L” peeps. They’re really cute, though, and you only notice the wire really close-up.

So cute!! Definitely do the 2 L’s. Think of it this way - if your first initial were different than his, would you only do his first initial? I think not! :)

I also think you should go with two ls. Otherwise it might look like only one person’s initials. The “r” looks great! I love the tiny flowers.

I went to your source for the painted k, but I couldn’t find it anywhere on that page. could you print the source please? Also I think you should go with two L’s.

I agree w/ the other ladies, that you need 2 “L”s… sorry I know that probably wasn’t what you wanted to hear ;-)
BTW - your “R” is FANTASTIC and well worth all your effort :)

Is there any way you could spray paint the wire, or would it flake off?
Agree re: 2x R :)

@ejs4y8 — crack you up? I hope that’s a good thing! ;)

Thanks for your advice, all! I’ll see if I can manage another “L” out of the remaining wire!
