We didn’t have much time to recover from the minor embarrassment of the slideshow, for as the lights came up, our fathers were ready to take the stage and toast us. Mr. L’s dad was up first and kept his remarks short and sweet. A born public speaker, he did a fantastic job in thanking everyone for coming to his little party. He spoke on the nature of weddings and the beauty that comes in surrounding yourself with family and friends who have traveled near and far to celebrate your commitment and love. As Mr. L and I scanned the room and took in the faces of our many loved ones we realized truer words had not been spoken and we were once again in awe of the warmth and love within the four walls containing us.

As FIL sat, my father made his way to the front of the room. I haven’t had the opportunity to hear my dad speak in front of a large group before and I was a tad nervous to see what he had prepared. My concern was all for naught as his remarks were touching and surprisingly hilarious. He thanked everyone for the support they had provided to Mr. L and me over the past 29 years and raised a glass to my groom in honor of his birthday.

There may have even been a cougar joke or two, as I am about a month older than my man (scandalous!).

As if on cue, as we sipped our libations in honor of the groom, the very attentive wait staff brought out the celebratory cupcakes.

While we had planned on bringing up Hey Cupcakes from A-town, the logistics of hauling a single additional item (or 200 as it were) were too much for me to handle. Instead, the morning of the party my wonderful MIL stopped by the local Costco and picked up the celebratory cakes. Much to our delight they were huge and tasted fantastic!! Being his birthday and all, Mr. L was hooked up with both a chocolate and vanilla cuppy, each of which held a special candle.

A raucous rendition of the birthday song and the ceremonial birthday wish followed. Everyone was on their feet cheering as the candles were extinguished and we joked about how we would ever be able to top this for his 30th next year.

Next up, it’s time for some presents – who doesn’t love presents?!
We are so very blessed to have all these pretty pictures from Jenna Cole! Thanks, lady!!
