The ABCs of Being Showered

June 12th, 2009 @ 11:32 am by Mrs. Joey

Sister Joey, aka MOH Joey, has been racking her brain for weeks about what to do for my bridal shower. She lives in Italy since her husband is posted there, so she hasn’t been able to help with the wedding stuff. She wanted to do an Around the Clock shower but decided explaining the concept to some of the older guests would be too complicated. I liked the idea of something that revolved around the kitchen, but she wanted to be more creative than that, and wanted others to be creative, too.

So her idea? The ABCs. She assigned each guest a letter and asked that they bring a gift that starts with that letter. This seemed like a great compromise - if people want to be creative, they can, and if they don’t, they are likely to find something on the registry that starts with their assigned letter.

I love it. It’s sort of school-ish, and Mr. Joey is a teacher. She’s hoping to do a food or drink item for each letter of the alphabet, but that may be a lofty goal. She wanted to make real invitations, but finding supplies in her small village was hard.

She thought about ordering them but wasn’t sure how long it would take. I told her an Evite was fine. She scanned in our actual invitation, and used it as a background.

Love the ABC theme! What a cute idea… I’m doing a shower for my friend who is a school teacher, what a great idea I can use!

I love this idea! The around the clock idea is cute too, but ABC’s are certainly much easier to explain. Oh, and evites are awesome and make life way easy when it comes to RSVPing and worrying about whether invites got lost in the mail!

I just had my shower last weekend, and my sister (the MOH) did a theme involving lemons and limes. All the decorations were yellow and green, we had several kinds of lemonade, and to incorporate our Texan roots she used alot of gingham prints. It was great!

I am throwing a “favorite things” shower next weekend for my cousin. Each guest is supposed to bring something that is their favorite….a great bottle of wine…a fantastic kitchen tool….I am hoping that it is really fun. We shall see.

I think it’s great that though she can’t be here, she’s making a huge effort! You should feel special and proud!

This is such a fun theme! We planned an ABC shower for my big sis and everyone had a blast. At the shower, we compiled a list of the ABCs of marriage, where we went around the room and each guest gave a bit of marriage advice starting with the next letter in the alphabet! Then my sis got to keep the list. Fun!

Ooo the ABC idea is really cute! I love the idea that the guest might have to get creative, that always makes for great gifts.
I went to a “Basket Shower” a few years ago, where everyone put together a gift basket for the bride. Ppl got really creative and she ended up with a lot of unique gifts ppl never would have thought to get her before :)
