The Call

June 12th, 2009 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. French Bulldog

Isn’t it funny how just about the time you forget what your wedding dress looks like, the bridal salon calls and tells you it’s in? That’s right, MY WEDDING DRESS IS IN!!

I don’t think I told you, but when I ordered the dress, the salon had only ever seen her in ivory. I knew I wanted a white white dress, so I ordered it in “All White” and said a little prayer. When the salon called on Friday, the lady told me Paigely looked gorgeous and she had been showing her off to everyone. I quote, “The white is gorgeous! We were nervous because we have never seen it in white, but it isn’t blue at all.” PHEW, because there is really no going back now!

**Mr Frenchie, if for some reason you decided today was the day you were going to start reading Weddingbee, please decide not to read this post**

After work, Mama Frenchie and I are going to the salon to try on my dress, pay the balance, and take my Paigely home.
The Call : wedding wedding dress Paigely Yep, I get to take her home. Why? Two reasons:

  1. The salon is in Huntington Beach and I live 25 miles away in Laguna Niguel. With everything else I have going on, I don’t want to worry about making it up to Huntington Beach to get my dress altered.
  2. I’ve been informed by another bride, who purchased the same dress from the salon, that the alterations lady isn’t very good. She recommended a lady who does alteration out of her home in Laguna Niguel. Since that is obviously closer, I’m going there.

Did you decide to have your wedding dress altered somewhere other than where you purchased it?

Haha! My friends used to tease me in elementary school, because I was the only one drinking skim milk (or, blue milk) at lunch. Glad your dress looks white — can’t wait to see some pics of YOU in it!

Your dress is beautiful - it really fits with your personality! I ordered my dress in white with pool accents. The one I tried on in the store was ivory with celadon green. I know what you mean about holding your breath until it finally comes in and you see it with your own eyes!

I had to get alterations elsewhere because I bought my dress in Portland, but live in Seattle. It just so happens that the salon I bought it from doesn’t do alterations anyway. My first fitting is June 20th. Can you say DIET!

Yay! I LOVE Paigley. I bought my Maggie off the rack. No alterations due to a) being super tall and b) corset. My mom put the bustle on! Way easy. Getting alterations done closer will save you a major headache. I bet you save some money tool!

Yes two times. My daughter bought her dress last year at David’s Bridal. The lady who set up the appointments stressed out our bride to be so much she cancelled the appointment. That evening as I was pumping gas at the local corner convience store I noticed there was a seamstress, a yoga center and some of small mom and pop shops on the second floor. We met Gilda and she is wonderful. She ended up shortening my daughter’s dresss twice since she lost so much weight with the stress of the wedding and moving to Japan. This year when I bought my wedding dress, as soon as it came in, I made the appointment to see Gilda. Last Saturday I had my first fitting the next one is one month prior to the wedding and I can pick my dress up the Wednesday before the wedding all pressed and ready to wear!!

Will you recommend your seamstress afterwards? I’m looking for one (I live in Long Beach) and I’m terrified of going to some crackhead and getting my dress screwed up.

I’m so glad your dress came out beautifully in white! I ordered mine in white, and I was really disappointed. I tried it on in Ivory, but thought I should wear white, so I ordered white assuming it would be pretty much the same. When it arrived I was really surprised at how much it changed the dress- just gave it a totally different look that wasn’t what I wanted. It was so different, I decided that I wanted to get an entirely different dress in the end. Now I have to sell the other one! Just wanted to share my story as a little warning to all brides - definitely try to see samples in all shades before you order your dress, so you’re sure it’s what you like.

Congrats. It’s so fun to be reunited with my dress. Funny that you told Mr. Frenchie to go away “if today is the day you decide to read weddingbee.” Mr. CB doesn’t read it either. :)

@redbullfanatic: I will definitely do a post on my alteration lady, but in the meantime I’ll PM you her info :)
@Miss Cowboy Boot: Yeah, I’m just afraid that the day he decides, “Hey maybe I should check out this blog she’s always talking about” will be the day I talk about something secret ;-)
@Soon2BeeMrsLewis: Yep, I got it at Jinnys :) According to them Paigely is really popular at their salon.

Beautiful choice. I bought mine at Mon Amie, but their alterations would have cost over $500 for a bustle and hem alteration!! So believe it or not, my mom and I trimmed the hem ourselves, and then had her own seamstress resew the hem. Final cost? $45 for the bustle and free for the hem. I wouldn’t say I recommend this bold move, but it did save me hundreds!!

Gaahhhh!!!! I got my call yesterday and picked up my dress today!!! I wont be using the alterations at the place I bought it, either. The alterations (no matter how much or how little you need done) are $499. That doesn’t include bra cups which are an extra $30 each. My dress was $650 so that means the alterations would practically equal the price of my dress!! So I’ll be doing some research and finding other alteration options.

And your dress is beautiful!! Can’t wait to see it on and altered!

Love your dress! I live near Chicago and ended up buying my dress in Detroit (long story). I have NEVER seen a picture of my dress in anything but Ivory, but I decided to go with “natural” (”natural” = white). It’s supposed to be in next month and I can’t WAIT to see it. I’m a little nervous about not loving it in natural though. :)
