Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Wedding Dress Change of Heart

June 12th, 2009 @ 9:26 am by Mrs. Mouse

So, I showed you my wedding dress, but kinda left a little window open in case I changed my mind. Well, the inevitable has happened. With less than five months to go, and I can’t stand my dress anymore. This mostly stems from the fact that I tried to purchase a poofy, Lolita-style crinoline to give my dress more of a fifties, party feel–and it ended in disaster.

Here’s the look I was going for.

Here’s the dress with no crinoline (please excuse my messy bedhead):

And here it is with the crinoline I bought underneath.

I don’t think these pictures truly show the horror of how this looked on me. I felt like I was wearing one of those Victorian-era dresses with the huge bustles in the back.

And how about the six inches or so of tulle sticking out from underneath the dress? Ick! I know these issues could be corrected, but I just totally changed my mind. Over the past few months (I bought the dress a year ago), I had been doubting my choice. But I kept telling myself that if I waited until I got the crinoline, everything would come together. Well, it didn’t.

I still love the idea of wearing a vintage tea length party dress on my wedding day, but the sheer panic that I felt when I tried the dress on with the crinoline made me decide to scrap this baby. Shouldn’t a girl feel happy and excited about her dress, not a vague sense of dread?

Well, the good news is I’ve picked out a new dress. It’s eco-friendly and under $500 as well, but it’s not vintage. It should be coming in the mail in mid-July–I’ll try it on for you guys then. Ever since I ordered it, I have been going back to the picture I saved on my computer and drooling over it. I think that’s a good sign that this dress was meant to be, especially since I never felt that way about the old one.

Was there a moment in your wedding planning process when you almost lost it over a decision you had made earlier? What did you do?

Hehe, those huge bustles remind me of watching Cinderella as a kid. And when I heard wedding dresses were often bustled, that’s what I originally imagined it looking like — ick!

Can’t wait to see your new dress! :-)

Aww, I’m sorry it didn’t work out. My vintage dress was an equally not great experience…except I couldn’t even zip the thing up! And it was much more yellowed than it had appeared in pictures. So my vintage dress dreams were dashed and I immediately ran to some bridal salons…which turned out great :) I still think you look super cute in the pictures though!

Hope you share your new dress soon :)

I actually think your dress looks awesome with the crinoline - it makes your waist look tiny! Mind you, I have always wanted one of those big bustle dresses (you know, the bigger it is, the richer you are!) …

But you’re right, you should love your dress. Or, at least, not dislike it. Looking forward to seeing the new one!

I know what you mean about your dress. I can see why you had hesitations with it… I think that tea length dress thing can be cute, but you definitely need to find the *right* dress to do that.

I can’t wait to see the other one!

I think you look awesome in the dress. =) But you’re right, you should feel good about your wedding dress. Are you returning the vintage dress, or selling it? (I kind of want to steal it….)

I actually like the old one! I think it’s cute. You can always use it for a party dress, or have it dyed so you can rewear it. I can’t wait to see your new dress though!

I went back and forth over flowers. I did silks MONTHS ago so they were done. Then I discovered Etsy. Swoon. Oh well. Nobody will care THAT much that I didn’t go above and beyond with amazing creativity!

You may not like that dress, and although you have a new one, it looks totally cute on you. Maybe not in a wedding dress style, but still cute. And you could either sell it if you didn’t want it or you could die it if you wanted to keep it and wear it out!

Miss Mouse - you should check out the post on the front page for the silk vintage inspired dress in the classifieds! Kind of fits the bill.

I agree that the dress is cute on you but I cant wait to see the new one! I got a strapless gown…but it hasnt come in yet at the bridal shop…but when I keep looking at the pictures…esp the back because I have a long torso and two tattoos…I think of putting lace sleeves on it or something! We shall see when it comes in! Good luck cant wait to see the new one! Your bedhead is adorable! :)

Hm. If you like tea-length dresses… try Stephanie James Couture. She has some beautiful dresses that I was just trying out TODAY! I’m sorry your dress didn’t fit as you would have liked. You can always have a change of heart, nothing wrong with that!
