MAIL!!!!!
(I’m all about Blue’s Clues, people. I used to work at a daycare.)
I love getting mail. Most of my bills are delivered via e-mail, so I’m always excited to find something when I open my mailbox. It’s usually something good — either coupons, a package I ordered, or something special from a friend. Paper+ink+stamps = happiness, in my book.
Lately, every time I go home to my parents’, I have at least one or two postcards waiting for me. I always take time to read them thoroughly before updating the guest list and filing them away for safe-keeping.
I was a little wary at first of leaving the backs of our vintage postcard RSVPs blank, but it hasn’t caused much trouble. Everyone has been good about signing their name and being very clear about how many people will attend.
Unfortunately, in one case, they were a little too straightforward.
I got one postcard back that just said a last name and “6″.
Realizing they must be Mr. B’s friends or family, I casually asked who they were and whether they had young children. He was outraged when he learned they had RSVPed for six when we only invited two middle aged friends of his parents. Turns out they were planning on bringing their son, his wife and their two grandchildren along with them. I hope they’re not too upset when they learn that’s not the case, but it was sort of rude of them to assume that they could bring extra people. Who does that, anyway?
So far the postcards have led to some great responses from our guests. Check it out!
On the left is the postcard we sent, and on the right is the response, transcribed below for your convenience.

My Aunt Susan, who hooked me up with the art student that designed our monogram, sent back this nice note:
“Dear Lisa, What a delightful wedding invitation! Inventive, fun, charming. I really regret that we won’t be able to come. Our love and blessings to you and Lin. Aunt Susan.”
My dad’s Uncle Jim, who lives in Littleton, CO, comes to every family event. His daughter and I have the same full name.
“Irmy and Jim A. will attend. Thanks for the invitation! We have two Lisa Marie A.’s until the wedding. God’s blessing, Jim A. thanks for the columbine postcard!”
My sister/MOH, who spent hours pouring through postcards in a California antique shop, sent this gem. I picked this card for her because she loves the ocean.
“Lisa + Lin, Even wild storms and raging sea couldn’t keep us away! All our love, Tricia and Michael”
This might be my favorite. The card depicts a scene set in the Irish countryside and was hand-delivered to me at work last week.
“Things here in Ireland are green and drunken. We saw a leprechaun yesterday, but he got away so no gold. If we catch him again, he’ll be your wedding present, as we will happily attend your wedding July X. Happy RSVPing! Garth and Jenn”
Mama Bunny told me yesterday that I have another postcard waiting for me at her house tonight. I can’t wait to find out who else is coming!
