June 14th, 2009 @ 6:25 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

June 14, 2001: Mr. Bruschetta and I had met up at a local diner, and were sitting across from each other in a booth. I don’t remember what either of us ordered, but I do recall why we were there. About two weeks previous (following my uncharacteristically bold move), Mr. Bruschetta had been my prom date. And although I was graduating high school in less than a week, I liked him. A lot. I wanted to figure out if he felt similarly, and if we could start a relationship while I transitioned to college life. We were embarrassingly awkward, but sealed our evening with a kiss — and the intention to refer to one another as boyfriend and girlfriend.

It’s been 2,922 days, innumerable culinary experiences, countless (much less clumsy) kisses, and one proposal since the official start of “us”. And we’ve celebrated annually with Flag Day dates — below, we’re posing for Mama Bruschetta before heading out to celebrate the first year with dinner and a night at the theatre.

Today is our final dating anniversary before we’re married. So how did we commemorate our own elite eight?

Well, that’ll hafta wait for another post — since the story is actually related to some details for our reception.

It’s certainly going to feel weird starting back at zero following the wedding. I keep thinking we should get some sort of “credit” for all those years spent dating!

How long did you and your fiance date before getting married?

Happy Anniversary! Eight years is a loooong time. Congrats! Mr. Powder Puff and I will have been dating for 2 1/2 years by our wedding day. I don’t know what I would have done if he had made me wait for longer! :)

Happy 8! We’ve been dating 6 by our wedding date- aka, forever. You’re forever + 2!!!

I agree, I too feel weird starting at 0. Weirder because I’ve had friends start dating, then get married while we were still only dating… So they’re at 2, and I’m at 0? No fair! ;)

how cute!
You post totally reminded me of the Rent song - 5 hundred, 25 thousand, 6 hundred minutes! except it’s 525,600 times 8! Plus I love how you measure it in culinary experiences :)

Happy 8th! We will pass the 8 year mark in July and are tying the knot in October…I too feel like we should get some credit. When some people try to “warn” me of life after marriage, I always chuckle to myself because I feel like the 8 years makes it feel like a marriage already!

Carry on celebrating both! More excuses for celebration, and that way you don’t have to lose all your dating ‘points’! :-)

We got engaged on our 3-year anniversary, and were married ten months later. So right now we’ve been together for 4 and a half years, and married for almost 8 months. I’m still counting both!

Happy anniversary! We’ll have been dating for 7 years when we get married and I agree about the credit! I dont know how you’d get it buty I feel the same.

Also I like the elite 8, it make me think of college basketball, it shows that you went to a school with a good team!

Happy 8th! We’re getting married 4 days before our 8th anniversary. I also feel weird about starting from zero again. But at the same time, people don’t really count the years before marriage, even though we’ve lived together for 3 years. So I’ll look forward to starting to count up again!

Happy Anniversary! I’ve been thinking the same thing, suddenly you’ll be newlyweds but you still have those previous 8 years under your belt. I think you should have the “us” anniversary and the wedding anniversary and count both as years pass.

We will have been together for 6 years and 7 months to the day when we get married. We met and fell in love on August 29, 2003 and are getting married May 29, 2010. :) I just realized last week, after we booked our venues, that the 29th will be a recurring anniversary day for us. :) Congrats again!

4.5 years for us! I’m glad we didn’t rush into marriage after a year like a lot of my friends did.

Happy 8! We celebrated year #8 just five months after our wedding. And we’ll keep celebrating our dating anniversary, now we just have another one to remember!

I know exactly how you feel… We’ve been together for 9 in August, and our wedding isn’t for 2 more years, so we will be almost at 11 by then! So sad to start back at zero…

Wow, that’s a lot of days! We’ll be married just shy of our 5 1/2 year anniversary and we don’t plan on starting the count over! Don’t know yet if we’ll do the half-year wedding anniversary or continue with our old one (which symbolized the day we decided we were going to only be with each other). The wedding date will always be special, but our relationship truly began & was solidified that day :)

We celebrated our 7 year anniversary in April, and are getting married in July. I agree with you too, it’s no fair having to start at 0!

Congratulations! We got married last September but we still celebrated our 4 years of being together this year. I just called it “4 years of togertherness”. I’m leaving the “Anniversary” for the wedding celebration now that we’re married.

Our wedding date is 3 days before our 9 year dating anniversary. So when our first wedding anniversary rolls around, I won’t be able to keep myself from calling it our 10 year anniversary.
