Help Us Pick a Save the Date!

June 15th, 2009 @ 2:38 pm by Mrs. Mouse

Our friend who agreed to design our save-the-dates for us sent me and the Dude a few choices recently. We asked him to create something that looked like a music poster, and he delivered. I’m so excited! Now all I have to do is pick one and figure out how I’m going to print them. I had originally thought I would use my Gocco to print the STDs, but some of the designs he came up with are pretty intricate, and I’m not sure I trust myself to make them happen on the Gocco. I have a couple other options:

  1. try to print them on my laser printer
  2. take them to Kinko’s
  3. find a good local screen printer to print them for us

I think option one would be the most economical, and option three would be the most aesthetically pleasing. Maybe I should compromise and go with option two?

At any rate, here are the designs.

Design #1:

Help Us Pick a Save the Date! : wedding save the dates 12 1

Design #2:

Help Us Pick a Save the Date! : wedding save the dates 2 2

Design #3:

Help Us Pick a Save the Date! : wedding save the dates 31 3

Design #4:

Help Us Pick a Save the Date! : wedding save the dates 41 4

If we went with the first one, we could probably Gocco it. But honestly, I am loving this tape design so much! It literally has nothing to do with our wedding, but I don’t care! I’m thinking that the colors are a bit too modern for our vintage, English garden-y affair, though. So I might change the reddish orange color to a pale blue to make it look a little softer.

What do you think? Which design should we go with? Also, how should we incorporate our wedding website URL into the save-the-date? And finally, what method of printing should we use?

I’m liking No. 4. They are all cute though.

I think softening the colors will be key. Our save the date tried to be vintage and modern at once. It was a difficult balance!

For me, design #1 is too busy. I can’t easily read it, which may mean that it gets glossed over. As for the others, I like the layout of design #2 the best although they are all good!

I like #1. We designed our STDs and invites and brought them to a print shop/copy center. Kinkos said they couldn’t help us. The copy shop (can be found near any university or college) did the set-up, printing and cutting and they didn’t have a problem with our paper weight or text color.

I like #1 the best, BUT, I think that all these designs clash with your English garden party theme. I DO think that you can have modern prints with a sort of English-y touch: perhaps a minimalistic image of a poofy-type flower, or a silouhette (in one or two colors) of a lady with a big hat sipping champange. Just my two cents.

#1 “pops” most to me, but it IS challenging to read and comprehend. Alternatively, then, I’d go with selection #3.

I love #1 (have you tried rotating the “invitation to follow” 180 degrees?) & I also like the #2 tape design.

#3 Definitely because in terms of design, it brings in “save the date” at the top and introduces what it is someone is looking at. i also love the look of it.

to soften it, the blue would be great, what about white or grey instead of the black if it still needs to go softer. what are your wedding colors. perhaps use those?

I like #3 - the design flows the best. I think swapping the red to blue would look great. I’ve used our local Kinkos for a lot of printing, and I couldn’t be happier with them. They also have that fabulous cutting machine - saves TONS of time!

I like #2 or #3, can’t make up my mind about where to have “Save the Date,” if above or after the tape. If you had a B side, you could totally put the wedding website on that side ;-)

But yeah, I don’t have any real advice regarding wedding website placement. We didn’t include the website on our Save the Dates. We’ll be putting that in the driving directions enclosure card.

Like someone mentioned above, the design clashes with your vintage garden party theme. The design is very cool by all means. Personally, I don’t think the Save the Dates need to match perfectly to the rest of the invitation suite or your over all theme. But, it would be flow better if you picked different colors so that it doesn’t go against the theme. Perhaps use the colors of your invites or wedding colors, etcetera.

I do, though, recommend either gocco-ing it or having someone silkscreen them. There’s a lot of black in there so you might get toner marks if you go with laser printing, even if you do it at Kinkos . . . test print it first!

These are nice designs, #2 is my personal fave. But, if I were you I’d stick with something more in line with your English garden theme. I’d find a design that’s a little less trendy.

I’d do one, but maybe work on the layout so it’s easier to read…

#3– I would add the website under “we’re getting married” in the same style.

I love design 4 and 2. I also think the blue would be a cool color change. Have you checked out Vistaprint.com for printing. You can sight up for their emails and get 100 free postcards and just pay shipping which is about 4.00. I made my SAVE the dates that way and it was a cool and economical way to do it. You don’t have to use them as a postcard you can easily get envelopes for them. .. if you did the blue switch it would be awesome to mail it in a blue envelope.

I like the first one. Maybe pick three fonts and reuse them, so it doesn’t look as hodge-podgey? I think the idea is there, but just a few tweaks would make it awesome! I really like the font that the date is in on the tape versions. 9/11, huh? I also like the font your names are in on the first one. I like how you spell your name. If I had to pick a tape one, I’d go with option #3.
