Boutonniere Love

June 16th, 2009 @ 6:37 pm by Mrs. Star

After seeing some amazing inspiration on Etsy, I decided that it would be fun and cost-effective to make the guys’ boutonnieres myself. I spent a few weeks collecting the supplies from various places:

  • Purple ribbon - eBay - $8 including shipping
  • Guinea deathers - Etsy Seller Mojaziemia - $5 including shipping
  • Miniature camellias - eBay - $12 including shipping
  • Black beaded rose - Trim Store in NYC, W 38th street - $2
  • Pin backings - Findings Store in NYC - $4

TOTAL - 6 Boutonnieres for $31

1

I’m pretty proud of the way they turned out! I love that they incorporate our polka dot theme and that they were lovingly handmade by me. I was concerned that my mister would feel slighted that they were silk flowers, but he confessed that he was way more excited about boutonnieres made by me than ones made by some florist!

Would you ever consider incorporating silkies into your day?

Those look fantastic! Cute feather! I’m loving your DIY wedding so far. After seeing Miss Lab’s bouquet and your bouts–I’m definitely thinking about incorporating silkies! And how great of your FI to be so excited about them. :)

They look great! I love polka dots too! My lovely MIL made my bouquet with silkies and I loved it, and now it’s in my dining room and I get to see it and remember and love it everyday.

I’m definitely thinking of doing silk flowers! =) Depending on what we go with, that is. With our current plan (a single blue rose for me and my fiance, a daisy wreath in my hair, and a single daisy in coloured bottles for centrepieces), we might just pluck the daisies from our yard and buy the roses! =) Then again, silk might STILL be a good idea, because we could keep the roses as a keepsake, the daisy chain would stay “fresh” through the whole event, and we could keep the centrepieces as decorations for our house!

I am LOVING on these AND copying them! My wedding is in TEN DAY-aaaaaaaaah, but I ordered the feather & am attempting to recreate the look with fresh flowers. My bouquet & boutonniere “trial” was tonight & I did pretty well I think.

My florist charged me $30 for 10 real roses (2 roses for groom) baby’s breath, greenery and berries boutonnieres.

I got lucky cause for that price I didn’t have to DIY.

All our flowers will be silk, as I’m allergic to real flowers. It would be awesome if you could post a tutorial, since I’m planning on making my own bouts! :)

My maids flowers will be silks but that’s it. My mom used to be a florist and made their spray bouquets for me. We found “real touch” Camellia silks at Michael’s that look and feel amazingly real. My bouquet and the guys bouts will be real though.

Ohh… how did you keep all the flowers together at the base? Did you just wrap them with the ribbon or did you tie them together with something else? I’m doing all artificial due to groom’s allergies, but haven’t attempted anything yet!
