Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Help Us Pick a Save-the-Date! Part II

June 16th, 2009 @ 9:30 am by Mrs. Mouse

Thanks to everyone who looked at our save-the-date choices and gave their input! Although the consensus seemed to be for Design #1, the Dude and I really liked the mix tapes, so we decided to go with #3. I realize the design does not “match” our English garden wedding theme, but these STDs are really an opportunity for us to do something funky and fun. I promise our actual invites will be vintage-y, floral, and full of English garden goodness.

We had our designer/friend (I guess he’s a friendor!) move some of the text around, as well as give us some more color options. He also used a couple of different fonts for the text at the very top. Take a look at our new choices!

1

Color choice #1

2

Color Choice #2

3

Color Choice #3

4

Color Choice #4

So, once again I will ask for your opinion—which color do you like best with this design? Do you like how the wedding website URL is now on the tape? I’m pretty happy with that. And finally, do you have a preference for the font used at the top?

On a related note, it looks as though I might have resolved the issue of how to print these bad boys. I did a sample print of Color Choice #1 using my Canon Pixma printer, just to get an idea, and it came out better than I ever expected! I used Oatmeal 100% recycled cardstock in 80 lb. weight from Paper-Papers.com. Here’s a picture of the first try.

I like how faded the colors look—it makes it more vintage. Of course when we print the final versions, we’ll size the STDs down a bit to postcard size, and we’ll make the backs look like real postcards. Now all I need to do is pick a color and start searching for some vintage music stamps on eBay, and I can have these STDs in the mail ASAP!

Which color is your favorite? If you didn’t like the mix tape design before, how do you feel about it with the new colors? It’s alright if you don’t like it—my feelings won’t be hurt!

I liked the red a lot! But, the green on white (and white in green) of color choice three is also great — and one of the easiest of these options to read, IMO.

I definitely like colors 2 or 3…
And I think it’s cool to have your STD be different from your wedding theme…it’s not like you only have one side to your personality! Go for it!

i like #2 & #4, i think the less bright colors look better against the bold design of the STD’s. I think they look great! definitely full of spunk & fun! great job!

I love both of the greens, and all of the fonts except #1 look nice.

i definitely like #3 the best..easy to read. i really like the blue in #2, however think the white text is harder to read. Maybe desaturate the blue even more? Such a cute design though and your guests will LOVE receiving them!!!!

I like 3 as well - the bolder green, pops more against the black :)

I vote for 3 or 4. I think they’re the easiest to read :)

I think I like #3 the best. I think the brighter green makes the whole thing “pop” a little more.

Okay - feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but my wedding is in the beginning of September and I’m about ready to send out my invites. Seeing that Miss Mouse is just now sending out her save the dates makes me think I am too early with my invites?

I like color #2 the best. The bright green is a little reminiscent of a garden wedding.

I like #3 because the green ties in the garden theme the most. All of the fonts used for this choice look good & the wedding website on the tape is a great idea!

I like #3 because I think the words pop out the most. Plus, if the printing makes is look a little vintage, the other colors may wash out too much and make it difficult to read.

I like #3, because it looks a bit like a garden wedding! And it’s ok to have a different style STD … ours were much more ‘graphic’ compared to our invitations.

@pvaulter718:
Ooh, I didn’t realise Miss Mouse’s wedding was so close! I think you’re fine with going ahead with invitations now … we sent our STDs out about 10 months ahead (mostly because some people would have to travel), and sent invitations about two months ahead. I think sending out invitations now is perfect timing, and I’m not really sure how useful a ‘Save the Date’ at this stage would be.

My monitor must be poor since the two blue ones look alike and the two green ones look alike.

Why not just print all the colors and then randomize who gets which version?

At first I liked the more muted colors, but now I think I like #3 the best - it definitely is clearest, without being too bright like #1. Also, I definitely like the font on the top of #1 the best - I think it looks more vintage than the others. Great job!

I like 3 the most, but I also like the red writing in 1. Maybe you could write your names in a different bold color like blue instead of having it all one color. Nice work.

I vote #2 and #4. I’m partial to turquoise, so my choice would be #2. But #4 might go more with “garden”, but not to the point where it’s a perfect match, which is totally OK!

I like JTG’s suggestion about just doing random colors - they all look kind of neat. Plus, you won’t tire out your printer as much. I have a Canon Pixma printer also, and it printed GREAT photo quality at first, but after 3 8X10s everything came out a little icky.

PS: keep the your names in red so that they stand out! looks best. Oh, and, I think your color choice for paper is excellent! The effect it has on the printed colors (of the design) is very pleasing and works well with the “vintage” cassette.

I love #3. =) I think the green kind of gives it more of a link to your garden theme, plus your names show up better against the tape than with the bright blue.

I like #3–it’s a lot easier to read, and I love the deep green. But I also like the idea of printing them all to have some variety and give your ink cartridges a break.

I like # 4 (the green works best) and I DEFINITELY don’t like #1 - the font is wrong and the blue too bright. On # 4, how about outlining your names in black, to make them stand out more?

I vote for #4–in font and in color. I think the softer green will look great on your vintage-y paper! And the color green would also work well if carried over into the English Garden theme. So they’re not matchy-matchy, but belong to the same wedding!

I think #4 makes it easier to read the text on the bottom, and I think your names in red (#1) is awesome.

color choice 2 looks best. the blues just look too bright to me. I’m glad you put “were getting married” on the top now. It makes more sense grammatically to me when it is on the top.

I like the red names and the blue, but the (invitation to follow) is hard to read on the bright blue dot. Just keep it in mind with the final version and when it’s printed. Great design!

You should definitely have your names in a contrasting color, like #1, but I’m not sold on that design. You should have your friend make the polka dots more translucent, the date/location is too hard to read, especially on your printed copy.

I love #1 and this design!! I saw a letterpress tape STD on here awhile back and we seriously thought about doing it!! I wish we would have, so cute!!

PS–we almost got married at Barr Mansion too, but my mom talked me into getting married in my hometown outside of Austin.

@pvaulter718: You usually send out Save the Dates 6 months before the wedding. As far as invites go, I sent mine 6 weeks before.

#2 with your names in red, I’m not to fond of the outliney-ness (not a real word I know) of your names in that one. It could just be the computer screen. I think It will translate better to your garden theme.

@Melissabegins: I don’t know off the top of my head, but I emailed my friend to ask!

I’ll probably do a post on this topic at some point!

@Wanda:
Wow, I didn’t even notice that. But, to be fair, there have been plenty of Sep 11ths before and after 2001 … I think it’s great that Miss Mouse and her loved ones will now have a nice memory associated with that date.

@Melissabegins: “We’re getting married” and “Austin,TX” are in a font called “Eurofurence”
“Holley and Jason” is in ‘Rage Italic’
“9.11.09″ is in ‘Blitz’
and “invitation to follow” is in ‘Coolvetica’

All of these fonts came from free websites like dafont.com and searchfreefonts.com

#3 is my favorite! The green is fresh and funky, and I like the matching names on the tape (unless you did them in black, or a darker green.. just not the red).
