Pre-Rehearsal Pizza

June 17th, 2009 @ 10:25 am by Mrs. Latte

What do you get when you combine…

1. This odd shape:

2. With this more familiar one:

3. And then add in some words:

4. And some embossed letters?

The Latte Pre-Rehearsal Dinner Invitation!!!

Yup, I said PRE-Rehearsal. Our rehearsal will actually be going down on the wedding day. An hour before the ceremony. Sigh. There’s a wedding at our venue the night before, so we won’t be able to rehearse until the day of. I won’t be there because I don’t want to ruin the “walking down the aisle in my wedding dress” moment for Mr. Latte (and myself). I am trying my best to look at the bright side of the situation… it’ll be the perfect time for Todd to take some bridal shots!

We decided that we still wanted to get everyone involved in the wedding together to thank them (in advance) for being with us on our big day. Hence, a pre-rehearsal dinner. We wanted a fun, super casual dinner with good food. And since most of our dinner guests will be coming from out-of-town, we knew exactly what we wanted to eat, and where we wanted to eat it: Pizza at Lombardi’s.

Lombardi’s is America’s First Pizzeria, but more importantly, it is home of our favorite pizza. It is just SO amazingly delicious that just thinking about it makes me drool. The place is small and sort of maze-esque, but we’ve secured the upstairs rooftop room for our dinner. We may have to overflow downstairs but we don’t mind because we don’t have any toasts or other scheduled events for the evening. Just family, good friends and delicious pizza.

Are you drooling yet?

So, back to the invitations. I made the whole thing in Paint and Word. Yup, I went old-school and didn’t even open the fancy shmancy Photoshop for this one. I wanted to have Lombardi’s (or what is supposed to be Lombardi’s) lit up against the black NYC (or what is supposed to be NYC) skyline, so I Goccoed the yellow “lights” first, then the black skyline over it. It was NOT fun trying to line it up perfectly, but I got it to work after a couple of attempts.

I Goccoed the “PIZZA” sign and then heat embossed it to make it look “lit up.” I miniaturized my Empire State Building, Goccoed it to the front of the envelopes, addressed them, and sent them off!

Anyone else going super-casual with their rehearsal (or pre-rehearsal) dinner and invitations?

LOVE Lomabardi’s! So fun.

Great job on the invites, too. Our wedding invites are incorporating the NYC theme; you’ll see them soon, I’m sure!

Oh, these are so cute! Um, I’m probably going to be going MUCH more casual for our RD invites, in that I won’t be making them myself!

Too cute!
I live in the suburbs, near the country. We are renting out a new pavillion at a local park and having a Mexican food buffett - casual all the way!

Since we are getting married right by the beach we are having a Bon Fire Rehearsal dinner. Should be very economical and very fun!

Those are adorable! I had an etsy seller make our RD invites (inkobsessions) and they are to die for. I’m so happy not to be doing them. If I had to craft ONE. MORE. INVITE. I thought I would die! I love yours :)

Ooh, so cute! And AWESOME choice for the dinner - I love Lombardi’s! I am going even more casual for the RD invite. As much as I love paper products, I think we’re going to stick with online invites. A little bummed about that, but… trying to be green.

We are! Our rehearsal dinner is going to be at a Pizza place as well. It is the place where we went on our first lunch date. It is small, romantic but tasty place.

Oooo, SOOOO many people recommended stopping by Lombardis for the best pizza EVARRRRR when we were in NYC but we didn’t get a chance to go! :( I will live out my NYC slice dreams through you! Now that I’ve had real NY pizza in NYC, it sucks to come back to California and eat the filth they have here. Just kidding… (sort of)… but New York pizza is the bestest!!!

I love the idea of a NYC pizzeria rehearsal dinner! Pizza is one of my main food groups, so I need to remember to stop by Lombardis the next time I am in town! I love the embossed PIZZA on the invites! So cute!

We are going super casual. The rehearsal will have to take place at my parents so we are doing pizza and beer. That way we all get to mingle and be casual about it since that is who we are as a couple.

I love all things Latte, but um you are going to hate me–we were super unimpressed w/ Lombardi’s (and believe it or not these hardcore Chicagoans heart NY-style pizza! Can I get a shout out for Gigio’s?!) We tried Lombardi’s when we got engaged @ the Empire State Bldg back in ‘07-so NYC holds a special place in my heart. But…it looks like a great place to have a cas(ual) rehearsal. AND your invites are AWESOME!!!

@Miss Star: Can’t wait to see them! Yay to a fellow NYC bride!
@lreighard1: I hear ya! Although I’m also on the “I’m so sick of crafting” train, I have had to do a lot of it because I’ve been procrastinating so much. Bleh.
@Mrs. Penguin: You MUST go next time you’re in NYC!!! I need to find a good pizza place once I move out there…
@eileen marie: Sad. Give Lombardi’s one more chance when you’re in the city! :)
@Heather: Nope, we’re actually going to get the “rooftop” room. It was really easy…no deposits, no minimums. Just an early reservation.

Our venue books weddings the night before ours, too, but we have our rehearsal on the Thursday prior. Just how they do it. I think I’d be stressed to do it day off. More power to you girl!

We’re having our rehearsal dinner at Slows BBQ in Detroit. They have the best food and atmosphere. And as for the invitations, we’re going a similar route. They’ll be made out of craft paper or some similar brown cardstock. Really simple, but the food will make up for it.

Hey there,
I was just looking at Lombardi’s website, bummed it says they won’t reserve for Fridays or Saturdays, then googled away and found this.
Was yours on a weekend, and how many people fit upstairs there. I am totally on the pizza rehearsal dinner train, big time. I bet it turned out pretty cheap!

Hi Mrs. Latte!
My fiance and I were in NYC last weekend looking for venues, and we are loving the idea of a pizza reception at Lombardi’s! We are older, and just want a fun, informal reception and we both LOVED this place plus it’s right around the corner from where we’ll be married. Can you tell me how many people you had upstairs in the rooftop room? We have a party of about 35-40. Also, is the rooftop outdoors or is it enclosed? We will be married in December so I’m a bit worried about the weather situation…any advice/suggestions on this would greatly appreciated, thanks so much!
