Mrs. Powder Puff, Chicago Age and Occupation: 25, Preschool Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Career Services Engagement Date: May, 2008 Wedding Date: July, 2009 Blogging Since: November 12, 2008 Venue: Outdoor ceremony, banquet hall reception About Me: I am your typical Midwestern girl attempting to plan a sane, budget-friendly, fun wedding to the man of my dreams. I love shoes, laughing at “Platinum Weddings”, crafts, inspiration boards, candy, and basically anything I can DIY. While weddings can certainly be all-consuming, I honestly can’t wait until the ceremony is over and I can finally call Mr. Powder Puff my husband!
About Mrs. Powder Puff

Well everyone, I had my final fitting the other day, and I am now the happy owner of a wedding dress! A dress which is currently hanging on the back of the closet door in the guest room at my parents’ house, with the train spread out, all dramatic-like.

The wedding is three weeks away, peeps! All of the big and most of the little decisions are all made, and I am totally over making decisions, at all. Which is where you all come in.

My dress comes with a white satin sash, which flares out at the ends and has some embroidery, as well. I’ve been feeling kind of blah about the sash overall, so I’m thinking about ditching it.

Here’s a little something to jog your memory:

My dress, with sash (I’ll want it tied in a bow) and bustled.

Then, a little later at home and with my veil, no sash:

What do you all think?

Do I need the sash, especially to cover up my bustle buttons? Or does it look better without the sash?

I like the sash - it gives some definition to your waist. What exactly do you not like about it?

I think the sash cinches your waist nicely!

I don’t really like the sash, but that’s just my opinion.

To be quite honest I’m not 100% crazy about the sash that comes with your dress, but I do like it with a sash.
I’m sure with only 3 weeks left you have no desire to purchase anything else, but if possible I think a different sash would look great.
You could wear the dress without the sash for the ceremony and then tie on something fun for the reception.
Regardless of what you decide your dress is beautiful and you’re going to make a lovely bride. :)

I normally love sashes with wedding dresses (I had one with my own), but I’m not sure you really need one with a lace dress … it seems to compete with the pattern of the lace a bit.

If you did still want a sash, I’d probably suggest a slightly thicker one.

I like the sash… it makes your waist look (even) smaller!

Weren’t you getting another sash off of etsy? I think it looks good with the sash, defines your already tiny waist! Maybe you could look for a different one? I know three weeks is cutting it close, though.

I think I agree that have a sash accentuates your small waist really nicely- the dress looks great without it too, but the sash adds a nice figure-flattering bonus.

I feel like something is kind of missing without the sash… could you look for a different one?

I agree the dress looks better with a sash but the one that came with it is a not so great (I see where you’re coming from). What about a wide satin ribbon sash in an accent colour? I know you probably don’t want to do any more wedding-related errands but this feels like something you might regret later in photos if you don’t hunker down and find a replacement. The bustle buttons sticking exposed at the back just looks odd.

I think the sash accents your waist beautifully and that the dress looks a bit naked…or like its missing something…without it. I DONT think you need it for the bustle buttons at all (i missed them the first 2 times I looked at the back photo), but i love the look from the front. What about a diferent sash?? I know you dont want to make any more decisions, sorry!

First and foremost, very pretty dress–you’re going to be a beautiful bride! I agree with some of the others–I definitely like the look of the dress with a sash (it makes your waist look great and really pulls the look together), but maybe not this particular sash. I think something wider/more defined would look great!

I like the sash. If anything, I’d maybe have thicker sash or a colored sash.

I love the look of a sash with the dress, but the actual sash in the photos is nothing to write home about. If you got another sash, I’d say go for it. BUT if you’re over making decisions (I’m a primary grade teacher and I know this feeling well!), you look fabulous without it! I also missed the buttons in the photo until I was really looking for them.

By the way, I LOVE that dress. The neckline is dreamy & the back is so sexy!

Yes i agree with the other posters — the dress looks good either way! But if you are thinking about a sash alternate, I think a wider one would look awesome.

Gorgeous dress! I love the lace. I don’t like that sash—too skinny for my taste. If the only reason you’re considering wearing it is to cover the buttons, then I wouldn’t worry. I barely noticed the buttons.

I like the sash, the cute bow goes nicely with your garden theme, plus give your waist killer definition.

You know what. I just spent like 5 minutes scrolling through those pictures. And I changed my mind. I think I like it better without. Your waist looks just as tiny. Yup, that’s my final decision!

Well as so many others have already given their opinion… here’s another one to chew on :D I don’t particularly like the sash…. I feel like it kind of chops you in half, and that’s not a good thing. BUT… I do think a colored sash could add definition to your waist while covering your bustle buttons, and having color would just be a little more fun adn flirty!

I think the waist defining quality of the sash is important–not that you arent cute and tiny, but you can tell a difference in the way each option looks in photographs. The sash really creates visual impact and makes you look smaller. That being said, you don’t need that sash per se, you could use a different sash in color or a thicker white one with no bow. there are tons of options! My vote is sash/belt of some sort, but you look lovely either way :)

I think the sash gives the dress (and your tiny waist!) definition. It really calls attention to the detailing.

I voted sash, but if it was a different one possibly. What about using some fabulous fabric with a gorgeous flower? HEres one form etsy http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=23562745
or a more ornate one that can double for a headband when you are done

I think you should leave the sash out. It elongates your torso and makes you look taller and thinner. Having the sash the line of the dress is broken and your eye goes right to it.

That said, I think a thicker sash might solve the issue.

OK, so I think the vote is sash, but a thicker one. Maybe a thick ribbon from M&J Trim? Thanks for the advice, girls! :)

I agree with what a couple of others said - you need a sash, but something odd is going on with that one. I’m wearing a lace dress with a satin sash, so I’m biased :) http://watters.com/product.php?coll=wtoobrides&showid=961# (but I’m pulling mine to let the satin hang down in the front and securing with a family brooch.

I can’t decide about the sash, but I just wanted to say how beautiful you look in your gown. It is just perfect on you! I sometimes think that with some brides it looks like the dress is wearing the bride, but you look lovely and at ease in the dress. What a pretty dress!

Like other commentators, I like the sash but am not crazy about the one that came with the dress. Maybe there is something at a fabric store that can easily be transformed into the sash of your dreams? I think a smidge wider would be more flattering… Somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 to 4 inches? :)

Gorge dress!

Love the sash, but not so much in the back. Could you have your tailor make it more of a “belt”? That way the definition would be there, without having to worry about the tails of the sash detracting from the beautiful lace of your gown!

Love the dress! Could you try another color sash? Or maybe a thicker one? I know it might sound shocking but i tend to like the thicker sashes over the thin ones.

I suggest a wider sash. And if you don’t like white, maybe an ivory color for a little contrast.

I like the idea of a sash on that dress because it helps add more “hour glass” to your waist. Whether or not you use the sash that comes with the dress is is a different question, though. (not that there’s anything wrong with it, but you don’t seem to like it)

I like the sash and think maybe a different color as well or maybe one in lace to match the dress? If you like no sash I would suggest taken the dress in more at the waist. Your smile is so cute…You look beautiful in your Allure gown Miss Powder Puff! :)
