About Mrs. Stiletto

Exactly Like Heaven

June 18th, 2009 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Stiletto

Finding the right music has been a struggle, from the recessional to the first dance, and beyond. We want the music to reflect our style and to be the right fit. However, I didn’t want to dwell too long on finding the song that the bridal party will walk down to.

In all of the weddings I’ve been to since I started planning my own, I cannot remember the song anyone has used for the bridal party entrance, whether they were traditional or more modern ceremonies. Absolutely nothing has stuck in my mind. So, rather than overthink this one, when Mr. S and I hit upon something that we both loved, it was chosen without a second thought.

I know many couples out there have gravitated toward the Vitamin String Quartet for their beautiful instrumental covers of popular songs. Their cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” is absolutely perfect. It’s beautifully done, and will be a perfect fit on the day of the wedding.

This decision is absolutely set!

Are you considering cover music/instrumentals of any kind for your ceremony? What song do you wish had an instrumental version so you could use it for your ceremony?

I used “Lover Lay Down” by DMB for the bridesmaids and “Like a Star” by Corinne Bailey Rae for me. We left the ceremony to “Happy Together” by The Turtles. All was played by our extremely talented violinist friend. They sounded AWESOME!

we’re using vitamin string songs for our whole pre-ceremony music, and the bridal party processionals….my song, and our exit will be the only ones with words =)

@Hayley:
We were thinking something similar - that the only song with words would be the recessional!

We have another Vitamin cover for my processional…just have to find it on youtube so I can share ;)

@krgk84:
Perfect for that! I think it’s just too pretty of a song! I have another choice for my “aisle walk” that I fell in love with about a year ago…although the lyrics of the actual song I chose aren’t very weddingish ;)

Yep, we’re actually using 3 VSQ covers for the ceremony lol…
Wonderful Tonight (orig. Eric Clapton) for the parents/grandparents

There is a Light That Never Goes Out (orig. The Smiths) as the wedding party processional

And then Just Like Heaven as my walk down :)

This is great! We played the original song during our reception, it really got everyone out on the dance floor!

John Schmidt is a great pianist and has some great songs. He has done a few alot of selection on his website to listen too and recently did a cello and piano version of LOVE STORY (Taylor Swift) meets VIVA LA VIDA (Coldplay) - which you can find on youtube.

On his web site he has a vocal song done for weddings and I LOVE the Cant help falling in love piano version. Also has a Pachelbel meets U2 which I love.

I just wish I knew how to incorporate at least two of them into my wedding. The Love Story and Cant Help Falling in love are a little too fast to walk down the isle too I think or even for the brides maids.

His web site is

and the love story youtube is located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v3d6SFcDys

I am playing this song on repeat RIGHT NOW! It is one of my all-time favorites!

We are having 311’s “Love Song” as well. It’s slower and less… trance-ish… than The Cure’s version.

We used a VSQ cover of Radiohead’s “No Surprises” as the bridal party processional song and I used a VSQ cover of Coldplay’s “Life in Technicolor.” It was awesome.

We’re using VSQ for our pre-processional, processional and Recessional too.
We’re using Guns N Roses for our pre-processional - I can’t wait!
