About Mrs. Bear Cub

You might have noticed from my excited-engaged-hand shot that my nails aren’t exactly the most darling things in the world. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I had a proper manicure!

That being said, with respect to wedding day beauty, I’m not exactly planning for a French manicure. When we talk beauty here at the Bear Cub den, what we (the royal we ;) ) really mean is health. Let’s be honest with ourselves - when we’re healthy, we exude natural beauty! I’ve found some other brides along the way who’ve found this to be true as well.

As for my nails, they don’t exactly look healthy. I don’t bite them, but as soon as they grow a millimeter, I cut them back to nearly nothing - and for good reason! I have weak nails. They peel, they bend, they break, and all too easily! Luckily, a long time ago a friend introduced me to Nailtiques.

This “nail polish” isn’t so much a polish as a protein-enriched nail strengthener. I accidentally sliced through one of my nails a few weeks ago while prepping food (OUCH), and this little baby is bonding the nail together again!

So, while I have no plans to grow my nails out excessively long, I am looking forward to healthier nails on my wedding day. Au natural, and full of healthy glow. :)

Since we’re on the subject, I also love love love Burt’s Bees herbal blemish stick!!

I don’t know about you, but I trust this Burt guy and his fluffy beard to rid me of my fledgling acne - and to leave me smelling sweet, to boot!

My favorite favorite thing about the herbal “blemish” stick is that it smells like fennel (read: licorice). You did know licorice is an aphrodisiac for men, didn’t you? Mr. Cubbie loves to put his face close to mine and give me Eskimo kisses when I use Burt’s herbal acne stick.

What are your favorite beauty products for a healthier and more natural lifestyle?

Not exactly a product…but I love making kale/celery/lemon smoothies for glowing skin! Beet & apple is another favorite combination!

I too love the herbal blemish stick. But my man thinks it is stinky! :) You might want to give their lemon cuticle cream a try. I live in Colorado and it does wonders for the dryness and keeps them smooth as butter.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND - Rossi’s Nail System
(http://www.rossienails.com/brightplus.htm) you have to put it on everyday but it really works (just have it by your desk at work & apply in the morning so you dont forget!) it works miracles for growing/strengthing nails.

LOL - My FH’s law firm’s client is the owner of Nailtiques & one time she gifted all the ladies a bag with all the products which I constantly use & love.

Also consider home manicures & give your self a “olive oil” cuticle treatment & consider leaving a little bit on the tops of your hands for a few minutes to extra moisturize.

Always put a clear coat before polish - especially if you want a french/natural manicure for wedding day (to avoid colory nail bases)

Sorry - but I have been doing home manicures for ever! Hope this helps anyone!

I swear by Avon nail experts nail strengthener. I also used to have nails that split and peeled so bad and constantly biting them didn’t help either! But now they are long and strong and I love them, and the best thing about this product is that it actually absorbs into your nail, I hate that stuff that leaves a layer on your nails. And its only $6 for a bottle, even cheaper if you catch a sale. I’m planning on getting all my wedding day makeup from Avon too. I love Avon!

Haha, my fiance HATES anything licorice… so I’m pretty sure if I used that on my face, he would run in the other direction!

I love C.O. Bigelow’s Rose Salve (You can get it at Bath and Body Works)… it is great on my lips and nails, and weirdly works to heal scars and blemishes too. Love it!

Can you tell us what’s in Nailtiques? I’ve been looking for a nail strengthener (I use “Hard as Nails” right now) that *isn’t* full of formeldahyde (however you spell that :). I didn’t see ingredients on the site.

Thanks!

Oooh, I want to try that blemish stick! I feel ya on the whole “natural beauty” thing. The Dude has told me many a time that he is totally freaked out by brides with a ton of make-up on. So I’ll be rocking a pretty natural look as well.

I HEART Burts Bees lip balm. My sweetie is repulsed by the tea tree oil I sometimes use on my blemishes. Maybe I should try Burt’s blemish stick and he wouldn’t notice the tea tree oil being so strong!

I love licorice… but my FI hates it… so probably not the best idea :)
I love to use a nail buffer (got mine at the body shop) for an extra polished look - it works great, my nails get super shiny!
