Mrs. Kitten, Austin/Grand Cayman Age and Occupation: 25, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Dental Student Engagement Date: October 19, 2006 Wedding Date: April, 2009 Venue: The Grand Old House, Grand Cayman About Me: In 2009 I will get married (after a two and a half year engagement!), become an Army wife, graduate from law school, take the bar, move from Austin to Washington, D.C., and start my career as a lawyer! With all this going on, Mr. Kitten and I decided to have a tropical, "stress-free" destination wedding. Nevertheless, my micromanaging, detail-oriented, perfectionist side has prevailed---I am currently obsessed with every last detail of my "stress-free" destination wedding! But most of all, I'm beyond excited to become Mrs. Kitten on a fabulous Caribbean vacation surrounded by my friends and family!

And the Winner Is… Lavender!

And the Winner Is... Lavender! : wedding ceremony decor Birdsee Source

In my last post, I discussed making a grand exit. Some of you took a guess at what we chose to be showered with as we made our getaway, and for those of you that guessed lavender… you were right! So why did I post a picture of birdseed? Because I am totally head over heels for this wedding-toss packaging!

Ellie at Mint Design Blog created these little birdseed bags for her wedding (she also designed tags for a rice throw). And aren’t they adorable? I love the witty explanation on the tag and the colorful stitched closure at the top of the bag. I was SO ready to take on this project.

After exploring Photoshop a bit while designing our cocktail hour Trivia cards, I was eager to design little lavender tags for our grand exit. I even had my aunt ready to stitch the tops of the bags! But when I got sick three weeks before the wedding, this project fell by the wayside. In the end, we still had lavender in little glassine bags, but no cute tags or stitching. Our little bags were really simple to put together. Here’s what we used:

And the Winner Is... Lavender! : wedding ceremony decor Lavende Lavender Wedding Rice from Beau-Coup

+

And the Winner Is... Lavender! : wedding ceremony decor Glassin Glassine Bags from Michaels

+And the Winner Is... Lavender! : wedding ceremony decor Heart Marth Stewart Crafts Stickers from Michaels

We filled the bags with a few tablespoons of lavender buds, folded the tops of the bags down a few times, and secured them with a pretty sticker. The bags were placed in a basket and passed around just before we left. And you know what? They looked really nice! Even without the custom tags and stitching. :)

Have you had to tone down any of your DIY dreams due to pre-wedding setbacks?

How many of the bags did you order from Beau-Coup and how many small bags did that yield?

Super cute! The tags would’ve been cool, but totally not necessary!

Oh, those are so cute!!! I love what you ended up doing though. I was going to decorate the cups for our petal toss, but my bridesmaids convinced me to just put the petals in plain clear cups- and they were right! The petals looked beautiful and stood out in the plain container.

@lagizzle: It depends on how much lavender you want in each bag, but we used just over one bag for 75 little bags. I wasn’t sure how much I would need and bought 3 bags just in case. You can use the leftovers though! I put some in sachets and keep them in my clothes drawers!

So cute! After your first toss post, I checked in with the mister about the lavender idea, and I think we might be doing this at the end of our reception! ;-)
