Looking over her registry the other day, a friend of mine asked me for suggestions on things she could add. I came up with a list of things some people don’t think to add, and a couple things Mr Frenchie and I love to use.
1 - Tools - Right now, any tool I want is at my disposal in my parents’ garage. My dad is a contractor, so I pretty much have my pick of screwdrivers, drill bits, hammers, and pliers. Target sell this great 133 piece Home Project set by Black and Decker. I’m really excited at the possibility of having my very own power drill!
2 - Step Ladder - Another item I use frequently at my parents’ house that won’t be so accessible when I move in with Mr Frenchie. I’m 5’2″ and he’s 6’2″, but he wont be there to reach stuff for me all the time, and I’d like to avoid hurting my chairs as much as possible. This 3-step ladder by Wagner Steel can also be found at Target.
3 - Compost Pail - My Frenchie and I are big foodies, and just signed a lease on an apartment with a large patio. We can’t wait to start growing our own herbs and some veggies. I found this compost pail at Crate and Barrel. The design is nice enough to leave out near the sink so I’ll remember to use it.
4 -Charcoal Grill - Growing up, Mr Frenchie used to help his dad out on their Weber Grill. About a year ago, his father gave him that grill, and ever since, I’ve been a DIE hard charcoal fan. Trust me, nothing beats a burger off a charcoal grill. Target carries this Weber 22.5” one.
5 - Raclette Grill - We discovered this item while wandering around Sur La Table one afternoon, and it has made for some great entertaining. Basically, it is a griddle top that is raised up so you can melt cheese in spatulas underneath. We chose this Swissmar Raclette Grill, because it offered options for breakfast. The griddle flips over to a circle to make crepes, and you can use the spatulas to make your own mini omelettes.

We have a step ladder just like that one! It’s so handy to have around, and really stable for someone klutzy like me!
My FI just added some more “manly” stuff like the above to our Amazon registry!
Ohhh!!! yes I love using all of those tools and I feel so bad that I have to leave all of mine here in Chile, they are like my babies. But its and excellent idea to add some to the registry, my FI told me we should do that too
Definitely can’t forget the power tools! Mr. Lab basically has his own registry on Amazon.com (go universal registry!) full of power tools and lawn care equipment. It makes him feel manly.
We also have 3 Labs, so we included plenty of doggie-related items like a wireless containment system (good for rentals where you can’t install a fence) and big dog beds and stuff.
Words cannot describe how excited I am about this composter. for realllllllls!
Mr. Frenchie should have a tool shower! It’s a tradition in my fiance’s family, where all the guys bring a “tool” for the guy (i.e. similar to the bridal shower, but manly, sans cucumber sandwiches). Think beer and bbq burgers (charcoal of course!)
Raclette is super popular over here in Germany! It’s sooooo yummy!
we so put a step ladder on our registry! lol… I’m 5′3 and my fiance is 6′… I SO needed one of these!
My FI mentioned a “tool shower” to me a few weeks ago. When his best man was married, someone threw him a tool shower and my FI is loving the idea. Since his best man is familiar with the idea and concept, the FI is hoping that he will get one.
As for registering for not so common ideas…we haven’t started the registry process yet. However, we do plan on registering at Wal-Mart because they carry a lot of items that other stores don’t.
outdoorsy stuff that sometimes gets overlooked:
cooler on wheels
camping chairs
bikes
tent
firepit
golf clubs
[...] Our first night cooking was pretty interesting, we tried to make tomato soup (to have with paninis) and realized we didn’t have a can opener. The next morning, we attempted to make pancakes, and realized we didn’t have a spatula. Thankfully, last Friday we were able to open up the remainder of our wedding presents at Mama and Papa Frenchie’s house.
