When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.

Designing the Invites (Part I)

June 22nd, 2009 @ 2:51 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

We loved our save-the-dates so much, that we decided to hire Sarah Parrott to design our invitation suite as well. After stumbling across her blog, A Homegrown Wedding, I feel like she gets our vision even more now. We have very similar taste. Now, onto the invitations…

They will have about five parts to them. Five! I know, that’s a lot. 1) An invitation card, 2) A map, 3) An RSVP card + envelope, 4) A hang tag attached to raffia, and 5) some will have a rehearsal dinner invitation.

In designing these, I really want them to seem connected to our save-the-dates and feel similar to our inspiration stationery. One of the ways we’re doing this is to include another drawing from my very talented husband-to-be, Mr. Cowboy Boot. If ya’ll remember, he drew the horse that adorned our STD postcard. This time, the drawing is of a barn since that’s what our reception will be.

Mr. CB’s barn drawing

And, while I tried to get Mr. CB to pen some barn swallows and more horses, illustrating wedding invitations doesn’t make him very excited. Thus, I turned to Ms. Parrott to find some coordinating images to use throughout our suite. Here’s what she came up with:

Which are your favorite? Which do you think go best with Mr. CB’s barn?

Are the birds “native” to the area where you and the mister live, or where you’ll be having the reception? And for the flowers, are you using any of the ones Sarah sent along as ideas in the wedding? Or does that not matter to you?

Personally, I love how images 1 and 2 go with the barn illustration!

I agree with Bruschetta. Images #1 & 2 soon to go best with the “old-timey” feel of the barn drawing.

I like number 1 the best….unless birds are incorporated somewhere else in the theme. In that case it would be a toss-up btwn #1 and #2.

I love one. But then again, I am not much into birds. I just know your invites are going to be fantastic!!

Personally I like 3 and 4 because they remind me so much of my grandparents’ farm and of the barn swallows constant trips in and out during the summer. While I also think the flowers are all very pretty, is she able to do more of a wildflower mix? I feel like it would go with the barn better.

While all very pretty and appropriate, number 2 is especially sweet. I like that you could find those two little birdies in the barn and that they could sort of symbolize you as a couple. I also like that they’re looking off into the distance as if expecting something, again - a little symbolism.

1, 2, 3 and 7. That’s the most narrowing-down I can do. Those are gorgeous illustations!

I love #5!! The one thing about the flowers is that if you’re not going to use them in your bouquets, etc… then it may not really “flow”, you know?

I love the barn! I vote for #2. I think the birds are a better match for the feeling you’re going for.

I like Image #5. The shape of the branch looks elegant and the birds are looking at each other too (which kinda looks loveydovey, almost like theyre going to kiss!). I think it also kinda matches the drawing style of the barn. The eyes of the birds however seem a little sharp, maybe it can be slightly modified?

I really like how the barn is drawn. Mr. CB is very talented. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

all the images are beautiful, but 1 & 2 definitely fit the style of mr. cb’s drawing the best!
