About Mrs. Beagle

The Aftermath

June 22nd, 2009 @ 5:16 pm by Mrs. Beagle

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what my life will be like post-wedding. Like many of you out there, this wedding has become my baby. I spend so much time thinking about it, molding it, perfecting it… it’s hard separating myself from it. And often when I’m not physically working on it, my mind is turning over new ideas for it.

As we near the four month mark at the Beagle house, I’m realizing that this whole post-wedding depression that was once looming in the distance is speeding toward me like a bullet. Will I continue to get my daily fix of wedding blogs after the big day? How much will I miss all the projects I’m constantly working on? Even though sometimes I just want to get the wedding over, I know that deep down, I have thoroughly enjoyed this process in my life and will sorely miss it once it’s gone.

To prevent being overwhelmed with change, I’ve started to map out my married life.

With the wedding said and done, I’ll be able to spend more time with my new family (Mr. Beagle & Kingsley dog). No longer will weekends be filled with project deadlines, and we will be able to enjoy the outdoor spaces in Austin with our hound (which I know he will enjoy). We can plan out vacations with the $$ that has previously been diverted to wedding expenses and start get back to doing weekly projects around the house. I can focus on career goals I’ve been avoiding since getting engaged and there is always the possibility of expanding my crafting to a side business on Etsy. The more I think about it, the more I have to look forward to.

What will your life be like after the wedding? How do you plan on dealing with PWD (post wedding depression)?

I haven’t given it much thought, to be honest. I’m still enjoying my time planning. I keep telling myself I’ll just plan friends’ weddings to avoid PWD!

For the first three months after we’re married, we’re looking forward to just living! Our wedding is in September, and it seems like every weekend until then, we have some sort of wedding-related task to do, and as much as we both love all the planning, it’s so tiring! I’m looking forward to skipping the gym if I really need a night off and doing nothing on a Saturday.

Then, for our first anniversary, we’re planning a trip to Italy because we decided to keep our actual honeymoon very low-key :)

We are getting a dog and going to enjoy finally having money again and being able to travel as much as we can. Our first two years together I only had three days vacation due to when I started my job (vacay is based one years with the co. but it starts with the calendar year not the start date). This year we’ve been saving it all up. But I do worry the same thing. I am almost down to the two month mark.

As a newly wed, I can definitely attest to PWD. Or rather post wedding blues in my case (not quite as bad a depression). I’ve been searching high and low for projects to do, website blogs to loyally follow, etc.

But fear not!! After you’re married, you’ll still have plenty of wedding projects to do, namely getting photo prints and album!! I’ve gone through 3000+ photos from our photographer and various other sources and it’s been easing me through this transition. :o)

Well, let’s see…. we’re both students, for one thing. Full time. (Also working full time). And one of us may be starting a new job within a few weeks of the wedding. Plus we’ve got the house… and the honeymoon to plan for! I’m looking forward to having at least one thing (Getting Married) checked off my list soon! :D

I am two weeks past my wedding and expected the same as you- sadness, a feeling of being lost with no time and not a project to be had but I will tell you, I feel great! The lack of stress and worry far out weighs the missing wedding thoughts. I will say our wedding went great and I think that helps move past it- no regrets! I still check this blog daily though as it has the newlywed board and the ideas are great for other weddings, showers, or parties so I keep on coming!

I just got engaged, and I am starting to plan our wedding, and I have already thought about what will happen after our wedding…my plans are to start classes to become a wedding planner. I have always wanted to be one and have heard of many people who actually plan their own wedding before getting into the field…I am really excited. Planning a wedding makes me feel important, I am obsessed with weddings, so why not do it for a career, thats my plan to deal with PWD… :)

I thought I would come down with it hardcore, but I have actually been doing great!

Before the wedding, I had horrible insomnia every night for around four months, because I couldn’t stop from thinking of possible ideas. Once we were one month out, it was pure stress that kept me up- I took advil pm almost every night the last two weeks before the wedding! I was worried that afterward I would still have my insomnia (and a possible sleeping pill addiction lol), but I have been sleeping like a baby! It literally vanished the day after the wedding. :)

This past Saturday, I spent the entire day lounging at a friends house drinking mojitos, thinking how lovely it was that I didn’t have to do anything wedding related. The aftermath is glorious, my friend! ;)

Well, earlier this year I decided to set myself the goal of reading 100 books in 2009. So far, with wedding planning, blogging, law school, work, and studying for the bar, I’ve managed to read 15. I guess I know what I’ll be going after the wedding!

I’m a little concerned about post-wedding blues myself. I intend to throw myself back into my acting and possibly start an Etsy store! Mr. Star and I are also going to start saving for a fun trip for next year and possibly a new puppy :)

I honestly am enjoying the planning thing so much! But even more than the actual wedding I am looking forward to moving in with the FH, and getting to create our home together.
Also, like someone else said, I will have grad school to keep me busy! :)

Weeellll, actually I am MOST looking forward to AFTER the wedding because we want to try to start our family! I just turned 30 -ack- and he is 34…we’ve been ready for some time, and now our finances are finally in great shape too so we can get married and then take the next step. I guess it isn’t quite fair to hop from my happy wedding cloud straight to babyland but I can’t wait!! I am sure at least a little PWD is somewhat inevitable though…

…and you can go to Hamilton Pool whenever you want, and eat at El Gallo. Or, better yet, La Feria.

I think sometime after MY wedding, I’m going to have to make a nice, long trip to Austin. I miss its streets.
