Aww, Heck, Now What?

Fabulous photography rocks.

Too much great photography, though? Makes my stomach hurt.

We started with more than a thousand images which I narrowed to 120 of my favorites. After editing, I had 408 really great photos. Really. I love them with all my heart.

Um, but now what? I don’t know what to do next. And trying to figure that out is making me breathe funny and feel hot and overwhelmed.

I do know that I need at least one album PDQ (by the week of the fourth) and a few photographs to give as gifts to our families.

Should I divide the photos into folders like “Ceremony” and “Reception”? Or “Favorites” and “Super Favorites”? Should I try to tag photos rather than copy or move them? Should I use other groups like “To Print” and “For Blog” and “Just Because I Like Them”?

And how do I organize the photo book? Since I’m also doing a slide show, I’m leaning away from a chronological book, at least for now. Maybe I need to divide my favorite pictures into “great” (like the one in this post) and “iconic” (like the one of the hubby and I smooching under a really big tree).

Perhaps if I took more pictures in my regular life, I’d be better able to handle this, but my lifelong photo skills are limited to dumping photos in folders dated by month.

Please, share some advice, ol’ buddy ol’ pals o’ mine!

I usually go chronological in my albums, but that’s just me. If you have some color and some black and white, I’d suggest choosing a basic layout (either white or black pages - very classic). Then, I’d put a combination of b/w and color images on each spread. And vary the sizes per two-page spread too, maybe like this:
Left page: 3 photos. One of you guys kissing, one of the two of you laughing at someone’s toast, and one of you cutting the cake. Two of those three would be in black and white, perhaps.
Right page: one full page color picture of you smashing cake in each others’ faces.

Mixing up the sizes and coloring makes it interesting :)

Ask your photographer to pre design your album using her choices from your 400 or so favorites.. If your photographer is anythig like me she shot your wedding with your album in mind.. And he/she will design a BEAUITFUL story for you - and make it cohesive and it will flow well together - then once you see the initial design it will be MUCH easier to tweak it to include those MUST HAVE moments when you can see where you would want them to go.

thats my 2cents from a photographer stand point..

Cheese, I have no advice for you but..
a) I am going through the exact same thing! I can’t even start recapping because I’m so overwhelmed by the amount of pictures I love! I want to include them all!
b) That photo of you is amazing. I love how she captured such a real (and evidently hilarious) moment.

@Mrs. Kitten: Thanks. It’s nice to know I”m not the only one that is putting off recaps because I don’t know where to begin.

I wish I knew what was so hilarious, but I honestly have no idea. Actually, I think I broke the strap of my dress when I sat down, and we were laughing at how goofy my boobs looked. Or something. :)

Honestly for the wedding photo book I tend to think that it should go in chronological order. Not necessarily in the order the actual pics were taken, but in a way that best represents the goings-on/timeline and emotions of the day from your POV. I hope that helps? I also like MJs ideas for the page setups. Can’t go wrong with black/white backgrounds. In my minds eye I also see the book starting with a picture of your house. Since that how your “story” started right?

For me, tagging photos would make it easier to find what I want than putting them into folders. For your book, I would certainly mix in the iconic photos throughout so that your expressive and great photos have more “oomph.”

I am still working on choosing photos for my book. It’s not as much fun as I was hoping for. Usually when I do a page layout I just try to make sure everything makes sense, like no one is walking off the page or that two photos placed side by side don’t look silly together. I think any arrangement that makes sense to you will be great.

Part of me just wants to post the pictures and not write anything! For me, it is overwhelming to not only go through all of the pictures, but to try to put to words the way I felt, the emotions, etc. I feel like my words won’t do the pictures justice.

But even thinking of selecting those pictures to put into an album gives me palpitations.

(yes, I have a love affair with my photographer.)

Mrs. Cheese! I have the EASIEST and COOLEST slideshow tip ever! Go to http://www.animoto.com and check it out! You can register for an account (free) and make 30 second shows for free or purchase a full length for cheap–I think it’s a dollar or two. You upload your pictures, your song (must be an mp3–purchase from Amazon or convert an iTunes one). Animoto analyzes the song, your photos and puts it all together in a totally fun way so everything matches up. Then you can download the slideshow and show it from your computer. I did several and brought the into iMovie to string them together. It’s super fast and very professional looking! If you happen to be a teacher (or know one who’s account you could borrow) you can register for a free account. Enjoy!

I went whole-hog Creative Memories on those bad boys. One of their little kits + 45 minutes = awesome MOG gift, and I managed to do full-size albums for planning, the wedding, and the honeymoon (two albums there) in a reasonable amount of time.

That being said, fast album = kodakgallery for me.

heh I dont take very many pix either, but I would sort by event and then by sequence. So you could have Rehearsal (all pix in order by time) and then Wedding and then Reception…

By the way, I LOVE THE PIC up above! Too cute!

I would go somewhat chronological in the book, so it tells your story. You don’t want a hodge podge of photos in there!
