Mrs. Cowboy Boot's Picture
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

After Sarah Parrott sent over multiple images for me to sort through and decide which we’d play with on our invitation suite, she started designing our first set of proofs. Not only did I want Mr. CB’s barn to play a part, but I was also intent on bringing back the horse from our save-the-dates. On top of those two homegrown images, the peony (Image 1) and the barn swallow (Image 4) were my faves.

The first round of proofs, which arrived in my inbox in PDF format, looked like this. Use your imagination to envision them on 5″ x 7″ A7 Crane Lettra Letterpress paper with Goccoed ink.

When I brought them home to Mr. CB, we had differing opinions. We both loved them but we actually were drawn to different ones.

We sat down and went through them, pointing out the things we liked and the things we’d tweak in each one. I got our feedback to Sarah (which I’ll share with you in the next post) who then set to work on the second round of proofs. The talented girl that she is, she didn’t have to do too much to make us happy.

Before I move along to the ones we picked, which are your favorite? What tweaks would you do to the one(s) you like?

I loooove #1 — but wonder if you could add, like, a watermark of the barn behind the text on #2 or #3?

I LOVE the first one, but I’d love to see the birds a little large and more stylized, perhaps with that little trailing doodle like in the others?

I like Invitation 1 as well!

#4 is cute but that flower doesn’t seem new to me, if that makes sense. And since #1 has the birds on it, you could pull those through to other pieces if you wanted to and make it all cohesive.

The barn is unique and feels more unique to you…you know, because I know you both so well ;)

@Gilneas:
Ooh good call! I really like the “doodle” too. These are really great options, CB!

Oooo, another thought: Would it be too much or too cutesy to have the birds in #1 a bit larger and holding a banner of sorts with some words on it?

I like #1 and #3 for totally different reasons. I can understand why you and the Mister had to have a discussion! I also like that the birds could appear on other components. Aren’t you the one with 5 parts?

The peony makes such a classy, chic statement. It also adds just the right amount of color, without drawing too much attention away from the text.

I would have gone with that, hands down.

I love invitation one or four. But I have a major bird phobia so I’m not sure I’m the best person to give input on this =) Like, they make my skin crawl and I jump when they come near me (I was attacked by a bird at Disney, it obv. scarred me for life.)

And here is my anal retentive English major/journalist self coming out. It isn’t grammatically correct to put “two thousand and nine” it is “two thousand nine.” Although, many people think it is proper so probably only grammar freaks like me would notice….

Can’t wait to see the finished product

They are all fantastic, but hands down my favorite is #1. It’s so personal because of Mr. CB drawing.

#1 made me want to come to your wedding, so it definitely achieved invitation success! It’s beautiful, unusual, specific to your wedding. Love it.
