When Mr. Joey’s Away (Part 2)…

June 23rd, 2009 @ 10:56 am by Mrs. Joey

… Ms. Joey decided on flowers for her bouquet.

I had some flower inspiration before, but now I know what flower is going to be featured in my modern bouquet — the Billy Button.

I first ran across this flower months ago when I saw it on one of my favorite wedding inspiration websites, Black. White. Yellow. I loved the Billy Button and then I forgot about it until a recent search for yellow flowers.

Then, I came across this:

I found a few websites online that sell Billy Buttons pretty cheap but before I buy, I’m checking to see if the flowers are fresh or dried. I’d prefer fresh, but I’m OK with dried. I think they will give fresh flowers a little punch.

Is anyone else considering dried flowers? Are there logistics I need to consider when using dried flowers?

The billy balls are gorgeous. You don’t see many bouquets with those cute balls.

I’m using billy buttons, too! I just ordered a pack of seeds and I’m going to make an attempt at growing them. You can get them fresh from fifty flowers and the grower’s box.

@Ferris Wheel: I saw that but I don’t need as many as they are selling. It’s hard to find just 100 stems at a good price. :)

I used craspedia at our wedding and got so many compliments. They are my favorite!

Those billy buttons are so awesome! Are they as vivid yellow when they’re dried?

@mariavvisa: One of the flower retailers I’m talking to said that apart from the stem being brown, you can’t really tell the difference.

The only thing you have to keep in mind with dried is that they are soooo fragile! Also, with dried flowers the colors can look muted. You might looking into ordering a few fresh and dry so you can compare them side by side.

I’m also using dried billy buttons! In my bouquet, Mr Frenchie’s bout and the centerpieces :)

@mariavvisa:

After our wedding, my bouquet ended up on a shelf in the garage…not sure why. A month later, the craspedia (billy buttons) were perfectly in tact and still bright yellow. I thought about saving a few of them and putting them in a bud vase for the house.
