I’m very honored and excited to share with you how the various ideas for the wedding came together. I will begin the series by introducing ourselves so you have a better idea of who we are and how we decided on our wedding style.
My husband is Ron and my name is Jade. We met in a college programming class. We have very different personalities, yet we are alike in many ways. I’m very outgoing and a talk-box, whereas Ron is quiet and reserved. Together, we are a bit nerdy and very conservative. I like to do creative things and sometimes have a hard time controlling my creative ideas, while Ron is very logical and witty in his own way.

After we got engaged I became the “logical” one and didn’t want to waste money on a wedding. I wanted to save our money and buy a house instead. Ron wanted a house too, but really wanted to have a wedding so we could have great memories later to look back on.
He felt we would regret not having a wedding. So, we compromised and decided to wait a year for the wedding, which turned out to be a great idea. We sorted out our priorities and saved up some extra money for our wedding (while still saving for a house). I would definitely recommend this to anybody.
We took a trip together to Vietnam (my home country) to see my family, since I hadn’t seen them in ten years. We had a wonderful time there. We were lucky enough to witness the lantern festival, and that’s how everything got started. During the festival, a little town called Hoi An turned their lights out and lit the streets and their shops with lanterns. We took a walk with our family around the lantern-lit shops to enjoy all these beautiful lanterns. It was a most amazing sight to see everything lit with lanterns instead of regular lights—truly beautiful.
Since most of my family is back home in Vietnam, they weren’t able to attend our wedding, so we decided to create the feeling of home and family we had while we were in Vietnam by having lots of lanterns at our wedding here in Texas.
We both love Japan, especially how beautiful it is during the spring with cherry blossoms falling, so we decided to have our wedding in the spring and use the cherry blossom as our motif for the wedding. Most Vietnamese weddings have red as their lucky color, so I decided to add some pink to soften it out and create a bit of a colorful pop, which worked out great.

I always enjoy crafty projects, so it made perfect sense for me to take on some DIY projects for the wedding. I think it was a great way to add some personal touches to my wedding and it expressed my creative side as well. During my wedding planning I got some great ideas and support from the girls on Weddingbee, and I hope this series will inspire some of you to have fun and let you know that YOU CAN DO IT TOO!
I will continue the series with some major DIY projects and I hope to offer you some helpful tips that I learned along the way. I will continue to post more tutorials for the projects that I completed for my wedding, and maybe create some new projects with ideas and inspirations that I got along the way.
