Pretty Rings Offset Ugly Pillow?

June 24th, 2009 @ 3:59 pm by Mrs. Piglet

Guess what I picked up in Virginia a couple weeks ago?

Zooming out…

Check out our lovely bands from Quest Fine Jewelers! My wedding band was custom-made to match my engagement ring, and the Mr went with a comfort-fit, euro-shank design in palladium. We likey a lot!

Inching out a bit further…

And what’s that horrendous fraying thing they’re sitting on.. why that’s our ghetto-fabulous ring pillow!

After seeing the incredible craftiness of the oh-so-fabulous Mrs/Mama Perfume and our uber-talented Miss Mascara, I was inspired to take on this project. Forget the fact that I have yet to find a ring boy or flower girl. I wanted the pillow. And another distraction.

Want some more evidence of the ghetto-ness? Sure thing!

img_6730

Mr Piglet, on the other hand, LOVED it. I didn’t have the heart to show him pictures of the others’ creations. Especially… ESPECIALLY… the craftiness of our talented Miss Beagle. I just sat there and soaked up his adoring words.

I have some leftover fabric in case I decide to give it another whirl. But being a little more than a month out, we can’t afford to spend too much time on any one project. So for now, that’ll do pig. That’ll do.

Did you, or are you forcing yourself to be happy with your sub-par projects in the interest of time?

I like it! I sure couldn’t do any better, and no ones going to notice if it’s frayed or anything.

After reading Mrs. Perfume’s post about that style of pillow, I’ve been aspiring to make the same thing! I think you’re looks great - if mine looks half as good as that, I’ll be excited!

Oh, and as far as accepting sub-par projects goes? That sentiment describes my entire invitation project.

the frays don’t look too bad. if you’re really worried, just come in with a pair of sharp scissors and snip away any frays that look off.

maybe i’m not seeing its ugliness…i think it looks great. it looks like you could just brush the frayed pieces away and snip the long ones off the flowers.

i think you did an awesome job! :)

I love the rings and pillow. I have not a crafty bone in my body and I give that task to my MOH. Great job Miss Piglet!

Girrrrllll, I love it! And I’ll tell you what readers have told me: Fray Check! Just trim the frayed edges and add a little bit of the stuff, and done. You can get it at Michael’s.

I love you rings!!!

Aww, I think the pillow is adorable! I mean, it obviously can’t live up to the awesomeness that is you invitation suite–but really, what could?

Trust me when I say your project doesn’t QUITE qualify as ghetto-fabulous. Just trim the frayed edges and you’re good to go!

Miss Piglet - I don’t think it is quite as ghetto as you think! I LOVE it :)
P.S. I also love, “that’ll do pig, that’ll do” I say that to my sister all the time.

My fiance’s ring is palladium too! The jeweler recommended it over white gold or platinum. He loves it! Good luck!

I agree with Liz.. I guess I’m missing the ugliness! I LOVE it!

However.. if the frayed edges bother you, instead of making a whole new flower (because I think this one rocks) consider snipping the fray strings, and taking a little bit of clear nail polish on the nail polish brush and dabbing it all along the edge of every petal. It will seal the fabric, it dries quick and clear, and no one will ever know. That’s how I seal the edges of ribbon on my DIY projects.. try it out!!!

Thanks for the shoutout! Personally I think the pillow looks great! Wanna know a secret—the edges of mine are frayed too :) I actually prefer it that way!

hahaha … I am the most DIY challenged person EVER. Yes, every project I have made so far has been a compromise (at least in my mind, even if other people tell me they look fine). At least the one’s I’ve revealed on the ‘bee look acceptable. Maybe post-wedding I’ll be brave enough to show off the others. ;)

Haha. We say “That’ll do pig, that’ll do” (with the accent and everything) allll the time. ^_^

Love the flower! I really want to make one for our ring pillow, too.

Thanks ladies!!! The pillow is definitely growing on me. I’m starting to like it.. a lot!

@perfume and jamielee - thanks for the recommendations to prevent the fraying! I’ll give ‘em a shot!

haha it’s probably just the pillow fabric (I think I have that fabric!), you can make another pillow with different fabric, but i like the flower the way it is right now. ^_^

dude, the pillow is awesome! I love the raw feeling of the fraying edges of the flower! Okay, maybe a snip here and there — but I think it’s a winner :)
