My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. Veil Snafu

June 24th, 2009 @ 12:08 pm by Mrs. Mouse

Back when I thought my original dress was definitely “the one”, I went to try on veils at an independent bridal shop here in Austin. Although they didn’t have a ton of styles to try on, they offered custom orders for a pretty decent price. I decided on something that was halfway between the “Vegas veil” (a super short, two layer veil with tons of volume on top) and a simple cut-edge elbow length number, in ivory.

These two photos capture the look I was trying to go for: clean lines, simple and chic, with a bit of fullness at the top. You could call it that “fifties” pouf.

I thought I was all set for several weeks, until I got a call from the store saying they hadn’t placed my order yet because they didn’t remember whether I had asked for the two layers to be the same length or different lengths. Put on the spot like that, I couldn’t remember which I had decided on, and I didn’t want to make the wrong choice. Also, I was a bit miffed that it had been over three weeks and they still hadn’t placed my order. The woman who worked for the shop asked me to come back in to try on some more veils. I knew that they didn’t have any of the kind I wanted in the store, so I politely declined. I asked instead for her to email some pictures to me so that I could get an idea for what the two options would look like. Two more weeks went by, and I got nothing.

Now I am starting to doubt my own choices for the veil. Should I completely scrap the idea and start over? Should I go with a different store?

How did you deal with a vendor who messed something up?

Would you consider working with someone on Etsy to create your veil?

Definitely go with a different vendor. I’m sure once you nail down what you what you can find it somewhere else. If the original vendor wanted your business they would’ve done things a lot differently!

That’s totally ridiculous that they couldn’t remember what you ordered and then that it took them THREE weeks to tell you that! Go elsewhere for sure.

I second Etsy or anywhere else. If they’re not acting like they want your business, that’s worrisome. Have you already given them money?

It’s going to be in a lot of pictures - make sure you love it :)

You may want to go with a different vendor, but I would stick with the “vegas” style veil if I were you. I’m wearing something similar for my reception — at the shop where I bought it they called it a “bubble” veil, but it’s basically the same thing. Then I’m wearing a very full finger tip veil with satin edging for the ceremony.

I love your ideas … stick with it!

i’d definitely go elsewhere. if they’re this inattentive just trying to get you to buy a veil, i can’t imagine how the customer service would be once you did buy it.

I’d find a different vendor. There are lots of place that want & appreciate your business! No use adding extra stress :)

This is the Etsy vendor I am using! Gorgeous stuff and I am pretty sure she does custom.

I love the 50’s vibe. I can tell you can already rock it from your e-pics! Stay with it, I would just shop around elsewhere…..

I would switch to a vendor on etsy. There is no need to settle for poor service. I am using etsy seller Rohm for my veil:

There are lots of vendors out there, so I’d go and find another one.

Don’t doubt your choices. Check out Etsy, or get some fabric and make your own! If you like it- get it. I bet they wanted you to get something different cuz they’d make more money on it.

I agree with the others. If they’re not responding to you (or putting in your order), they’re not delivering the service that they sell. It’s almost like they want you to find another vendor…

I’m going to be a little different here… I would say still shop around somewhere else, but I would stop in or call the shop when you get some time and ask to speak with a manager. Tell them the problems you’ve been having and see what they can do to rectify the situation. The vendor is not in the right here, but you may get a great discount on the veil (or free)! Obviously the most important thing is that you’re not thinking about it, but if they’re still willing to do something about it, it could save you some money in the long run. Just a thought if you’ve got the time!

Go with someone else. We changed our venue partly because the coordinator there was so unresponsive and terribly difficult to work with!

I had horrible times with bridal shops in Austin. I then found Celebrations in New Braunfels and loved them. I dig the fifties look with the dress. I don’t know if they would have anything like that but it might be worth a try! Good luck

Seriously, go to another store. Shame on them for being so lazy and not putting your order through nor getting back to you!

I used Bella Bridal Veils on Etsy and I am SUPER pleased. I would definitely recommend her work! I was really frustrated when all the bridal shops I checked out were rude and IMO expensive.
