Complete Veil Satisfaction

June 25th, 2009 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Mouse

I told you guys earlier about the problems I had with the local bridal salon where I purchased my custom veil. I ended up calling the store and explaining everything that happened. They let me know that the woman who I had been working with no longer worked for the store. They were very nice and tried to convince me to keep my order, but I politely declined, asking for a refund. The way my order had been handled didn’t sit right with me. And anyway, I had been perusing Etsy for veils, and the style options seemed limitless! I decided I wanted something more fun and retro.

I found this great fifties bubble veil on Etsy for only $40!

It’s ivory, so it matches my (original) dress, and it’s got that classic ’50s poof at the top. I think it will end up being just a tad longer than my hair, which I am still growing out. The veil has volume, but at the same time it looks super lightweight and unobtrusive. I love it!

But please don’t think I stopped there!

I decided, since I saved so much on the veil, compared to the $108 I was planning on paying for the custom store order, to look for a birdcage veil/fascinator for the reception. I know birdcage veils are a tad trendy, but they are just irresistibly cute! And the options are really limitless: big flower, little flower, no flower, feathers, full-face veil, half-face veil, bandeau veil, rhinestones, the list goes on and on. I know I’m an Etsy-holic, but birdcage veils are one of those things that no matter what your taste, you will find one you love on Etsy. I even found one for $6!

One of my favorites was this unique birdcage made out of vintage lace and pearls. A little pricey, but worth it.

Another of my faves that didn’t quite make the cut due to price was this versatile bandeau number with detachable flowers. It can be worn as a headband, a bandeau veil going across the face, or a snood veil.

Wanna know which one I finally picked? It’s from the Etsy store Twigs & Honey, and I think it’s lovely.

Apparently my poor decision-making skills paid off this time. I ended up getting two veils that I love for the price of what the original custom veil would’ve cost me!

Are you wearing a less traditional veil? What does it look like?

I am suddenly a BIG fan of etsy. If all goes well. Lots of my doo-dads and accessories are coming from there. I’m on the look out for a birdcage veil (also going with the whole retro thing for the wedding) and there are just so many to choose from! I guess it comes down to how you wear your hair for the big day, which I have yet to decide.
Good luck though. It sounds like you’re going to look beautiful!! :D

I love your choices - retro 50’s is so fem and glam.

Etsy was my inspiration. When I went bridal gown shopping at a local boutique they had a birdcage on display and my MOH said try it on b/c it is your style. Fell in love but the price was over $150. My mom and aunt being the crafty queens they are, are teaming up to make me a custom birdcage.

I’m wearing a bubble veil for my ceremony, too! I love it. I wear it around the house sometimes, just for fun, heh. And because I, too, bought mine for cheap online, I know I can always order another one if I accidentally sent mine on fire while frying up some evening potatoes.
