Making the Guestbook

June 25th, 2009 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Taffy

When we started to think about our guestbook set up, we agreed that making cards for the guests to sign was the best route for us. I wasn’t sure how I wanted the final guestbook to look, and I liked the idea of being able to assemble it after the wedding. A friend had already lent us a birdcage for our cards, so we purchased another cage for the guestbook. I bought this at Target last summer, but have seen them recently in their home decor section.

Mom Taffy had given us this white cake stand in the spring; I thought that it would be perfect for the birdcage and give it some height at the display.

Instead of using pictures for the guestbook display, I made these silhouettes in Photoshop and put the prints in oval frames.

Once we had all of the elements, we mocked it up on our dining room table. I used the most wrinkly tablecloth ever for this!

The cake stand was perfect for the birdcage.

The whole display, including our favor jars (before we wrapped them in black ribbon and attached the signs).

The cards were plain white cardstock with printed gray lines. We used the scalloped Martha Stewart punch to decorate the bottom edge, and rounded the top corners. I thought they looked like cute eyelet Pac-Man ghosts! :) I also liked that the eyelet look matched the darker style of the birdcage. We had a ceramic tray that we used to display the cards; adding a blue ribbon under them helped tie in our wedding colors. We made a very plain sign instructing guests to sign the cards for our book.

Oh, that tablecloth is just sad. Our actual linens were ivory, and pressed! Yikes.

What kind of guestbook did you decide to do for your wedding?

Everything looks so great together! Did people actually use the birdcage to put their cards in?

I LOVE the birdcage idea. This is what we decided to do as well, and I think it adds a lot of charm :)

Great idea on the bird cage and putting it on the cake stand. I saw the same one at my local Target and almost bought it . . . I might have to go back now.

I would have never thought of putting a bird cage on a cake stand, but it works very well. Your table came together very nicely, and I love the additional touch of the silhouettes. You did a great job!

I love it! What a great idea!

I made a scrapbook of our engagement photos in black and white (our colors) for people to sign. So after the wedding, we’ll have a scrapbook filled with well wishes for us form our closest friends and family!

I semi-stole an idea from a knottie bio, and had three boxes: Wit, Wisdom, and Wishes. I had a bajillion slips of paper (enough for each guest to do…oh, I think 3 or 4) in a neat box from the $1 section at Target, and we visited each table after dinner and exhorted them to share their wit, wisdom, and wishes.

When we cracked the boxes open after the honeymoon (long after the honeymoon, I just realized), we found equal parts love and silliness. Hooray!

Very cute. I love the silhouettes! We used a birdcage as our card box. Our guest book was actually a quilt that my sister made. I wanted something unique that coordinated with our country chic affair.

I have that exact birdcage! I love it on the cake stand though, I might have to borrow that idea for our wedding :)

CUTE! We were gifted an antique wooden sled by a family friend and are using that for our guestbook for people to sign.

Yes, the silhouettes were actual photos. I traced the entire outline for each of us and filled it in with black in photoshop. :)
