Our Invitations - A Sneak Peek

June 25th, 2009 @ 4:04 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

Our invitations have caused me a lot of stress. I have had so much inspiration from wedding blogs, and of course, the bloggers here on the ‘bee. But sometimes inspiration can be overwhelming. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to have our invitations letterpressed. I just thought that this was something that I couldn’t pass up. I also knew that I wanted them to have a “wood grain” feel and had hoped to achieve this look with letterpressing. I seriously have been thinking about this since day 1 of our engagement!

1

(here is a sneak peak at our outside “packaging”)

A few weeks ago I was introduced to the GORGEOUS paper made by Gmund, and low and behold, they made a wood grain paper. I ordered some samples back in April and when the arrived, I was floored. They were perfect.

***budget tip: Gmund will allow you to order 10 sample sheets for FREE with no shipping (they come all the way from Germany!). (www.gmund.com)

My design came together a few months ago. I knew I wanted to include the birds and tree and wanted them to be simple. I tapped into the amazing resource of Mrs. Cupcake to help line things up correctly and create a formal document. (She is a life saver!)

So the real stress was the actual printing. Should I spend the money to have the invites letterpressed or should I give it a shot with my own printer and this gorgeous Gmund paper? Well, on Saturday I decided I could sacrifice a sheet of the paper to do a test. And things turned out…. SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED.

Here is the RSVP card. I love the wood grain. I love that it almost makes the invitations look letterpressed.

4

Here is a sneak at the actual invitation. Again, I think the wood grain looks so rich!

5

I have so much more to share but I have only made ONE OF THESE! I have so much work to do, but I promise to share all of the details, including costs. I estimate that by doing it myself I am saving at least $500, and it seems so worth it!

What is the most unusual detail about your invitations?

The sneak peek is making me anxious to see the final product. I love the look of the wood grain, and it gives the invitations a huge wow factor without the letterpress price.

WHAT A COINCIDENCE! Guess what just arrived via UPS today? My Gmund Tindalo paper as well! (You would’ve thought it was Christmas, the way I opened that box!)

I tracked it down in Germany too, then found a US retailer that cuts it to size. BTW: It was more economical to buy it by the larger sheet and have it cut to size. My woodgrain wedding is well on its way now…and I look forward to seeing yours!

I LOVE the sentiment “dinner and dancing following the kiss” SO MUCH!! It figures that my invitations were printed on Monday aka too late now!! Can’t wait to see the rest!

I read about this Gmund paper on the Oh So Beautiful Paper blog just the other day. Woodgrain is HOT right now!!

Actually, I got notecards and envelopes from the MS line at Michaels, and the envelopes were lined with a woodgrain designed paper. TY notes, maybe? :-)
