Mrs. Mary Jane's Picture
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, ND Age and Occupation: 26, Instructional Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead Programmer Engagement Date: February 28, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: City Hall About Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
About Mrs. Mary Jane

Mr. Mary Jane and I wanted to send thanks to a few people who really helped us out in the home-buying process. So when I ordered our “Semi-DIY” address change photo cards from Shutterfly, I added a couple of custom photo cards to the shipment.

For the front of these cards, I chose a similar (but not the same) shot to the main one used on the address cards. I ordered five 5″x7″ cards with the image printed on them and custom text inside. Here are the results:

The quality is very nice. This was the first time I’d ordered custom cards, and if I did it again I probably wouldn’t select the “photo corners” border. It looks a little odd (especially since the top of the photo I used is pretty white and makes the photo appear border-less in some places). But overall, we’re pretty happy with them.

Inside each card, we wrote a heartfelt message to the recipients. We could have had Shutterfly print our messages on the cards, but I thought the personal touch of a hand-written note would be better. (I also addressed these by hand - even though my handwriting is nothing to brag about!)

It would be really easy to turn an e-pic into a save-the-date or engagement party invite, or to take a favorite wedding pic and turn it in to a Thank You card. It’s a nice quality photo print. if you don’t get too crazy with the border options, your recipient could easily save the picture as a keepsake. The cards I ordered were the 5×7 folded cardstock ones. They cost $2.49 each because I ordered less than 10. The more you order, the cheaper per-card they are.

Are you incorporating photos into any of your wedding paper goods?

I recently did a post in the boards about something similar. I’m using accordian style thank you notes for our vendors so I can show them images of how they made my day special. I think thank you cards are a great way of being creative and thoughtful of giving thanks.

Cool! Someone should do a post comparing all the different options out there (vista print, shutterfly, moo, etc.). Price, quality, flexibility, etc.

So cute, I would love to receive such a cute card in the mail. Your house is awesome too, have you moved in yet? Our closing date is 7-30, I am so anxious to get in there and paint!

So far we’ve used our “unofficial” e-pics for our Save the Date cards, and we’d like to do photo thank you cards depending on how long those take to order/how long it takes to get our wedding pictures.

I love the way the Shutterfly ones came out. We might try it!

Your cards are so cute!

We are having a picture taken of us at the wedding with a ‘thank you’ sign and using that as the front of our card and we’ll hand-write each thank you note inside.

Super cute house by the way!

Yes we did photo save the dates. But I recommend vistaprint. They are a lot cheaper than other companies. I got 50 oversized photo postcards for free from them. All I had to pay for was shipping which was like $3.

Your house is adorable!!! We’re planning on using epics for our table numbers and to display at the wedding. And we’re doing photo STDs but those are just pics that we took on our cruise when the mister proposed - I wish I would have gotten a pic of the proposal or afterwards!!

@Chela429: Oooo, accordion. Love that!

@Natakie16: Yep! We moved in in May. I will do a post on it one of these days (if I can figure out how to make it a little weddingy so it’s at least somewhat relevant!)

@Andrea: I haven’t used Vistaprint; thanks for the advice! I used shutterfly this time because I had a gift card, and some coupon codes (I ordered these along with the 4×8 address cards I posted about the other day).
