Shoe Quandary

June 25th, 2009 @ 1:25 pm by Mrs. Star

When looking for my perfect wedding shoes, I had a few criteria that I was pretty firm on:

  1. Ivory, to match my dress, of course
  2. Heel can’t be taller than 2.5″
  3. Pointy toes, because they make my legs look less stumpy
  4. Less than $175
  5. Some sort of interesting detail, because I love shoes and don’t want them to be boring!

Apparently, having five bullet points that you’re not really willing to budge on makes shoe shopping ridiculously hard. Yeah, I’m picky…

In my everyday life, I almost always turn to Zappos to solve my shoes crises. They have almost everything and their shipping and return policy can’t be beat. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for in wedding shoes on Zappos. The closest I came was a pair of Stuart Weitzmans that fit 4 out of 5 of my needs, but the shoes weren’t particularly interesting on their own. I tossed around the idea of buying them:

To give ’em some razzle-dazzle, I would have bought some crystal brooches from M&J Trimming like these:

Attaching them to the front of those shoes would have made for some pretty beautiful shoes, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend $150 on shoes that I wasn’t in love with. I thought I could do better.

These shoes were gorgeous:

They were a bit out of my price range, though, and I don’t have a bow motif going on in my attire, and wasn’t sure that I wanted to introduce one this late in the game.

My Google searches were all turning up with similarly unsuccessful results, so I turned to sites like eBay and Etsy.

Etsy yielded beautiful results like these shoes being sold by GossamerWingsStudio:

These are incredible, but they don’t really match my dress (Someone from the hive should get them, though!! Tell me if you do!).

EBay didn’t do me much good either, since I wasn’t finding anything I hadn’t already seen from Googling.

I was almost resigned to buying cheap kitten heels like these ones:

I was figuring that I would just have to dye them and try to embellish them myself, when my shoe quandary took a turn for the more complicated!

Stay tuned for more shoe drama… :)

What’s your criteria for the perfect pair of wedding shoes?

I wanted peep toe shoe with some bling. I hoped the heel would not be too high between 2.5 - 3 inches and purple! I didn’t think I would find them and then I stopped by David’s Bridal and there they were. I also had them dyed purple! P.S. I got the same shoes as Mrs. Deviled Egg!

Consider Lela Rose for Payless- they have satin shoes very similar to the ones you posted and they are dyeable in really nice colors. Then you can splurge on some nice clip on earrings to use as embellishments for the shoes - consider antique shopping or ebay - i did it for new years with my FH’s grandma’s earrings that were way to big for me to wear but put them on some peep-toes and they looked amazing.

1) Open toe!!
2) Under $70
3) Comfortable… which means little-to-no-heel, though I’m a foot shorter than my FI!
4) Gold/champagne or deep wine red.

I spent about a full day searching SO many shoe sites, and gave up… I don’t have the money currently, and I’ll need shoes for student teaching in about 6 months… I’ll find them then!

I love pointy-toed heels — almost all of my work and dress shoes are this style!

my criteria were
1-peep toe
2-navy blue
3-4″ heel or higher (Im very comfortable in high heels and FI is 9 inches taller than me…and Im 5′6″!!)

I am debating between 2 right now…

I love those brooches! Those would look amazing on the first shoe you posted.

As for my shoes, my husband actually picked them out for me because they “went with his attire.” Thank goodness they ended up being the perfect height and matched my gown too!

I can’t wait to hear the rest of this story! Thankfully, I already have my shoes. They were much harder to find than my dress! Oh and they’re purple. :)

@MyPurpleWedding: I’m glad you’ve found your shoes! My shoes were a lot harder to find than my dress, as well ;)

@KellyV: My criteria are exactly the same and aside from one pair which are out of my price range and a bit shorter than I wanted I haven’t found anything, would you mind sharing?

Oh you (or anyone) should check out the shoe clips by Erica Weiner Jewelry… http://www.ericaweiner.com/shoe_rosewhite.php

They are vintage, and very inexpensive. These rosettes are cute, and they have bows and other options too.

I ordered these shoes from DSW for my wedding and I just love them. They were really inexpensive but they don’t look it. And comfortable too! They say they are 3″ but I honestly think they’re less. They are by Caparros, called the Vincente II silk pump.

I need something with a chunky heal, otherwise I’ll be aerating the lawn.

for me, the perfect wedding shoe would be pink, have a nice heel (3-4 inches), and be comfortable.

I was in a little bit of a shoe quandary myself. I gound the perfect shoe, nice heel size , just the right style, they were a great price, but I could not find a shoe clip that fit the front of the shoe. DOH!!! The vamp on my peep toe shoes is long and wide and despite buying the largest rhinestone clips I could find they looked tiny and ridiculous on the shoe. I winded up going to a store that specializes in trimmings buying a large rhinestone button (which is a lot cheaper than buying a brooch of that size) and crazy gluing it to plain shoe clips I got on ebay. Problem solved! Just had to be a little resourceful :)

Two pieces of criteria: Red and tall-ish. Already bought ‘em and love ‘em!
