Snackrifice

June 25th, 2009 @ 2:46 pm by Mrs. Gloss

Let me introduce you to the newest wedding related word in my vocabulary:

Snackrifice - giving up snacks to fit into that perfect (yet unforgiving) white dress.

Snackrifice : wedding diet Snackri image

I’ve been trying to cut back on the snacking habits as of late but I’m SO bad at it.

I have little to no willpower. Crackers and cheese are my weakest point, rapidly followed by anything with sugar. I’ve tried, I swear.

I’ve done the ‘brush your teeth a lot so nothing will taste very good and you wont eat’ trick. I learned I like things minty.

I’ve done the drink a glass of water before you eat so you will feel fuller trick. I haven’t quite figured out the timing on this one; if I drink too soon I don’t get the effect of the fullness until I’m done eating, and if I wait too long, I just have to pee.

I’ve tried not to buy ’the bad things’, but that really just makes me want them that much more.

I’ve thought about getting my jaw wired shut, but I REALLY like smoothies, and it turns out that smoothies with a banana base (which are the ones I like) have like, 600 calories… figures.

Anyone else have any snackrifice tips? Or are you just as bad at snackrificing as I am?

Go for a walk when you’re craving a bite!

Also, props for the wordplay ;-) Love it!

man that bacon looks really good.
I don’t have any snacrifice advice - Mr. BC and I are just running our little hearts out! (and eating whatever we please)
have you ever heard of chocolate bars with bacon in them?
Mr. BC and I were thinking last night that hot cocoa with a bit of bacon grease in it would be SO GOOD. and you’d never know why! hahahah…. mmm fat is so good.

Actually, though - I do have some advice!
We usually crave candy like little children. So we’ve been keeping a healthy supply of clementines around the house. They’re sweet like candy, chewy, and tiny like a little snack!
Are clementines in season there?

Those look delicious!
My good friend works for Herbalife and they have a pill called Snack Defense. I take one everyday with my breakfast and lunch and I don’t crave snacks as often. It’s really helped me :)

I say go for the snacks, but make them healthy and then eat smaller meals! Snack on apples, bananas, oranges or other fruits and make sure your meals are well-balanced!

Almonds and fruit. Frozen grapes are awesome, and I like to keep sliced strawberries and melon on hand.

And just DON’T keep anything bad around to snack on.

Works for me!

I’m so bad about this. So bad. I just try to eat less all around so I won’t have to give up my favorite snacks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t!

Grapes are helping me this week (I’m crazy hungry when I pms. So. Annoying.) I keep them at my desk and when I think I’m starving to death, I open my baggie, eat a couple grapes one by one, drink some water and try to distract myself with work. Or WeddingBee. :D

I’m a horrible snacker too! I can’t eat large meals at one time, but I can snack all. day. long. Chewing gum helps me fight the cravings. :)

Oh I’m just as bad! Especially with cheese and crackers! But I have moved to the cabot 50% less fat sharp cheddar and low fat triscuits. I was hoping it would taste awful and make me not want it anymore but instead they are just as delicious! At least its less fat! :) good luck!

Shoot. Hit send too fast. ^_^

I was also going to say that I actually had to throw out a bag of potato chips I bought when my sister came to visit last weekend. I was going to TOWN on those chips and I just couldn’t quit it (mmmmm saaaaaalt).
So I just tossed them. Wasteful? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. I don’t feel bad about it. Much. If it’s there, you’ll eat it. I know I do.

I just had a pack of yodels and funny bones with my healthy lunch so I’m probably no help! hahaha. Tips that work when I actually follow “healthy eating” advice:

1. EAT BREAKFAST- huge huge help.

2. Start the day off healthy. If you have a healthy breakfast you are more likely to cotinue throughout the day.

3. If you must have something “bad”- SHARE. That way you eat half as much, but still get a taste.

4. Dont eat after 7pm.

Good luck! oh P.S. I love bacon. and cheese. nom nom. Thanks for making it harder on me.

I keep prunes on hand… they are so sugary sweet that whenever I’m craving anything sugary or chocolately, they take it right away! (And then of course, moments later, I’m craving something salty like cheese & crackers…haven’t figured that part out yet!)

In college I went on a very strict diet for a class on nutrition and exercise where we were the lab. I ate a lot of pita chips. My favorite snack to make during the portion of the class where we were eating 60% carbohydrates (good if you are working out intensely, not great for loosing fat) was to spread non-fat plain yogurt on a Triscuit and put two grapes split in half on top. I think six of those fit into my snack budget. Some protein, some carbs, a tiny bit of sugar in those carbs but plenty of fiber, and not a lot of fat. It might fit the bill instead of cheese and crackers.

Oh, and I’m only five feet tall, so normal people can probably eat a bigger portion for their snack!

Don’t completely deprive yourself of snack foods! Buy what you like, but break it into small portions when you first get the box home and only let yourself eat one portion when you’re craving them. There’s a bunch of simple substitutions that can help too … switch to air popped popcorn rather than buttered and microwaved, try fat free jellybeans or grapes for sweets, make mini-icecream sandwich substitutes out of fat free vanilla wafers and cool-whip …

Good luck!

I feel you on that water one. I think whoever made it up was trying to trick someone into just keeping hydrated. The only thing that works for me is to not have it around. Out of sight, out of mi… mouth.
