Mrs. Mary Jane's Picture
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, ND Age and Occupation: 26, Instructional Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead Programmer Engagement Date: February 28, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: City Hall About Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
About Mrs. Mary Jane

When I was in the throes of my courthouse/city hall search, many of you commented that perhaps I should consider a different venue. A park, a gazebo, or a nearby field would all be beautiful and still inexpensive alternatives where Mr. Mary Jane and I could be married by a hired officiant.

But the problem is: months of build up has lead to complete immersion over exposure to delicious courthouse wedding pr0n.

I mean, check these out (and be sure to click on the “source” under each to see more pics of each wedding).

First, a shout out to a fabulously green-shod bride:

[source - don’t forget: more fab photos here!]

And don’t you just love how smooth and romantic this next gal’s dress is?

[source]

How can you not love a barefoot bride dressed in blue?! (Thanks to the reader who sent this to me!)

[source]

Up next: clean, sweet and definitely San Francisco. (Bonus: If you click a few pages in to this next couple’s photo post, you’ll see their awesome after-shoot/TTD session on the beach!)

Several of you sent me this gorgeous civil ceremony:

Nothing like a bright umbrella to brighten a rainy trip to the justice of the peace:

This one is possibly my favorite: Her pearls, his suit, their little ones… every element is perfect and special. (She’s a Weddingbee member too!)

So can you see why I kind of got stuck on the courthouse idea? Are you obsessed with your wedding’s look, feel, or theme?

(P.S. Want more courthouse wedding pr0n? Don’t forget about my original inspirational pics!)

If she’s a be, and is reading this post, I would really appreciate knowing where she got her wedding band. It is beautiful!!! Miss MJ, I can see why you are in love with this idea. as I scrolled throught them, I day dreamed a little about scrapping the big wedding, and doing a nice little court house one.

Super stylish! I’m beginning to see that civil ceremonies are the hipper way to go. Love the bouquet in the first one!

As one of the people who suggested that you go the park gazebo and officiant route… I can understand why you want to stick with the courthouse. It does seem romantic and old fashioned, and the photos are very elegant and original.

@lobstergirl: I know the last gal is a Bee member. She left the link to these photos on one of my earlier posts - and I bookmarked it and thought “i am SO going to feature her”. And then… I forgot her username and couldn’t locate the comment when writing this post. I suck! I hope she’ll step up and reveal herself now!

i agree these weddings are gorgeous. however, i think the beauty is a reflection of how happy these couples look!- not necessarily the courthouse atmosphere. regardless, congrats on finding a venue

@Gina: I totally agree about the happiness factor being of utmost importance. But some people seem to think that a courthouse wedding’s going to be all crappy and lame, like getting married in a parking garage or at the DMV or something. With this post, the one I linked at the bottom of it, and my own wedding, I hope to help sink that misconception.

I think it’s simply the reflection of a good photographer. There are ugly or unflattering aspects of any wedding venue, but a good photographer is going to work the space. Some of these look like they could be anyplace, but given the right lighting, pose and composition they look romantic and exciting. Even a parking garage can look good in the hands of the right photographer- especially if you add balloons, hula hoops and whatever other object is the trendy wedding shoot of the moment.

I love the flowers and how he picked her up in the first one…and cute green shoes! What an adorable twirl and silky gown in the 2nd. Adorable couple in the 3rd. I love how she is sitting on the railing in the 4th so cute! On the 5th one you can see they are so happily in love and giddy! The umbrella is so cute and look at her blue shoes! How sweet is the look that the last couple is giving each other. I love her flower….miss bee member where did you get your beautiful flower? Great post MJ…I dont think its about the place you get married at…its about the two of you and the people who share the experience with and how you accessorize yourself!!! ;) Your going to be a beautiful bride and you and your groom will have an amazing wedding and marriage!

Oh, and for some earlier TV series inspiration, check out Bobby & Diane’s city hall wedding from NYPD Blue. Years later, I can still picture the characters’ love, excitement and joy.

To all that commented on my wedding…thank you so much for the wonderful compliments!! I haven’t been on in quite a while, as you can tell, but my photographer called me today and said her site actually crashed last night due to all the traffic from this website! She was sooo excited :) I got the flower for my hair from claire’s for only 5 bucks. We had originally planned to do a traditional wedding, but after seeing all the stress from friends of ours with traditional weddings, we decided that we would just keep the focus on us. I told DH that it could rain, sleet, or snow on our day but it didn’t matter because at the end of the day he would be my husband, and I, his wife. It was the best day of my life, and I will never regret getting married at the courthouse :) I would do it that way a hundred times over!

Can I just say the bride with the green shoes (fabulous) the picture of all four of them looks more like a album cover then a wedding picutre. or is that just me? It’s probably just me (and the cold medicine)
