About Mrs. Powder Puff

Yesterday was an extraordinarily sad day for myself and my family. After fifteen wonderful years, we decided to put down our sweet little dog, Molly.

The Passing of a Beloved Puppy : wedding pets Mollyi Molly was an adorable little girl who loved jumping through the pachysandra, going on romps through the woods and relaxing in the sunshine. One of my favorite habits of hers was in the summertime when we had shorts or a skirt on, if Molly walked by you and was feeling especially lovey, she’d give our legs a little slick. Like a little passing, “Love you!”

But in recent years, Molly had heart problems.

She could barely take those walks she so enjoyed, and was losing her hearing as well. She never wagged her tail, and leg slicks were a thing of the past. We think she was in daily pain. So my family made the difficult decision to put Molly to rest.

It’s so painful to deal with the passing of a pet, but I think it will be especially hard when we go home next week for the wedding, and find that Molly isn’t there to greet us at the door.

Have you ever had to deal with the death of a pet?

So very sorry Miss Powder Puff. Many many hugs to you. I have a 12 yo mastiff who is like another child to me and I am always giving him so much love because I’m afraid something like this will happen.

My sympathies. It is always so hard to make that decision about a beloved pet but if she was suffering, than what you did was best. I am tearing up just thinking about your dog. Cry and grieve for your dog, they are family members just like people are.

I lost my first cat years ago. She was with me all through college, through good times and bad. When I lost her I felt so alone–weird right, people say ‘it’s just a cat’ but she was my love. I still think of her daily, but now I have two new cats, not really new, they’re already 8 and 13 yrs! But I adopted them after I lost my first kitty. I knew she could never be replaced but these two keep me busy and warm at night! It gets better with time. Hugs for you and your family!

Hugs go out to you and your family. The passing of a beloved pet is difficult, they are basically a furry family member. We’ve had many pets for all my life and have lost a few (both naturally and through the very painful and necessary choice) It’s difficult every time. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the movie “What Dreams May Come” but there is a wonderful scene where Robin Williams character is reunited with their family dog in Heaven. I always try to think of that and imagine that’s where my furry family member has gone when we have a death in the pet family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Our pets have never been just average pets, but family members so I know the saddness you feel now. I’m glad to hear your girl is in less pain, that’s what I had to remind myself over and over when we had to let our golden retreiver go a few years ago. Hugs to you and your family!

I’m wishing you and your family comfort. I lost my first Bernese Mountain Dog (who I had for 10 years) to cancer 5 years ago. I still think about her all the time and miss her dearly. It was 3 years before I could manage to get another dog.

Dogs are pure and genuine love and that’s what makes them so special. If Molly were here, she’d be worrying about how you feel with her departure!

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss. Like goldenbear, I too lost my first cat last summer. He enjoyed going outside and then one day he didn’t come home. He was getting older and his legs weren’t so good. I know I probably shouldn’t have let him go out anymore but he had this bad habit of getting mad and peeing on stuff if I didn’t let him… bad kitty! Needless to say, I don’t let the other two cats out now. It’s so horrible when we loose our pets but I’ve found that time seems to help ease the pain a bit. My thoughts are with you and I am sending hugs your way!

I am so sorry to hear about your Molly. My parents made the decision to put down our beagle, Artemis, in November, and it was not easy. But we gave her the best dog life we could, full of snacks and snuggles and love - just like I’m sure you and your family did for Molly. Much love.

Awwww, big bee hugs. We quickly and suddenly lost the cat I’d had my whole childhood when I was in college, and it was so much harder than I thought it’d be — but it definitely helped to be able to talk to and cope with my family.

We know how hard it is to lose a pet at the Star household, especially after losing my little sister’s puppy in a car accident this week. Big hugs, powderpuff!

Without even knowing you and your family, reading this post about Molly made me cry. :( I lost my childhood dog too and I was absolutely devastated. My dogs always bring a smile to my face. And they’ve snuggled with me on my lowest days and licked me when I cry. It sounds like your family gave Molly a wonderful life, and I’m sure she’s smiling down on you from doggy heaven! :)

Sorry for your loss :( My family went through the similar thing with our family dog when I was in high school. It helped knowing the pup was no longer in pain, and that she was in doggy heaven :)

So sorry to hear about your family pet. I know I would be devestated if my little puppy (and ringbearer) passed away. Your Molly looks a lot like my little Pepper, just a little less wirey, and we get leg slicks too!
