Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa Fe Age and Occupation: 25, Magazine Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting Guide Engagement Date: April 28th, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2009 Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, Colorado About Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

More than you’d think! Last weekend, I ventured to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in the Four Corners area of Colorado. I’ve become a big fan of bluegrass since I moved to the Southwest two years ago and while I didn’t recognize most of the bands playing, I thoroughly enjoyed them all and even picked up a couple new favorites.

Early on in the day, a band called Greensky Bluegrass rocked the stage. You’re probably thinking, “C’mon, Ms. Cowboy Boot. What does this have to do with Weddingbee?” Well, let me show you how one die-hard fan (and bride-to-be) went about booking her music vendor:

Along with alternative ways of booking vendors, we saw many performances of songs that were romantic, sweet, and fitting for a wedding. Check out this one by Australian husband-and-wife team Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson. Before playing this cover of “When We’re Gone, Long Gone”, also sung in a trio with Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt and later by Kieran Kane, Kasey went on and on about how this would have been their “wedding song” had they heard it before getting married.

Are there any husband-and-wife musicians you adore? Did you book your vendors in an alternative way like the festival-goer above did?

maybe i just like music too much, but i wouldn’t ever refer to my wedding band as a vendor. my fiance is a big robbie fulks fan, so we just dropped him an e-mail and he’s completely on board. yo la tengo , gillian welsh/david rawlings and ida are a few of my favorite acts with romantic connections.

I grew up in a small south west Virginia town and a lot of my family plays bluegrass.
I think it’s happy music.
Tell me you’ve heard the Avett Brothers.
They are from Concord, NC and amazing! :)

We wanted Old Crow Medicine Show, but couldn’t afford them. We’ve heard them play at the resort we used to work at though :)

I’m a huge yonder mountain string band fan… love, love love those guys so much and can’t wait to see them this summer. There’s a great band I saw in Portland a few times called Taarka and I’m pretty sure two of the band members are married. One of these years I would love to make it up to Telluride!

Mr. Bear Cub has a near encyclopedic knowledge of bluegrass bands. He says you should check out Robin & Linda Williams, Tim O’Brien (I think Molly is his wife’s name), and the Cantrells.

I LOVE Kasey Chambers - and the music she makes with Shane is even sweeter than her solo stuff. They hold special wedding meaning for us too - my husband proposed to me on bended knee at the beautiful State Theatre in Sydney at the end one of their gigs.
