Designing the Invites (Part IV)

June 29th, 2009 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

As I mentioned before, the Cowboy Boot invitations will have five parts: the invitation card, the RSVP card and envelope, a map, a rehearsal dinner invitation (in some of them), and a hang tag to tie the whole thing together. We plan on using one of the various illustrations you’ve seen on each piece.

Next up, the hang tags–you know, the little tag that the raffia is tied through to bring it all together. Since we’re using the birds on the invitation and the barn on the RSVP, the hang tag seems like the perfect place to feature Mr. CB’s horse sketch (the one that adorned our save-the-dates). Give me your vote:

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

Option 4

Option 5 (This is a circle, by the way)

    Option 4 -> 8% (19 Votes)

Or, tell me which shape you like best? And which design is your favorite? Or how you would do it differently?

I think you should keep the shape — straight edges — consistent with the other pieces, and use similar embellishments on the tag. Can’t wait to see it all together!

I voted for 5, but I like 3 also. I love the color combos on the last three.

In my opinion, just because I’ve done graphic design and do stuff on the side sometimes, I would say go with something–like Miss Bruschetta said–that keeps with the straight lines of the other parts of the invite. You wouldn’t use a circle salad plate with a square dinner plate, most likely, right? So, I’d keep with the same shapes.

Also, I love the first one because the dotted line just frames the card. Even though I love the little flourish with the heart on #4, if you could work that into more of a rectangle (like your invites) than a square that might be even better than #1!

Sorry, that’s a lot. Just my opinion but I love what you have put together and your FI’s drawings are fan-freakin-tastic!! :)

I voted for 5 but also like the boarders around 1 & 3 is there any way to add a border to #5, or would that be too busy?

I like 4–it’s simple and I think it looks a bit vintagey.

I like #3 and #5, but I would take the horse off. It looks a little busy to me. Squished, sort of.

I love #4! Can I ask what fonts you used for the names and date?

I voted for #2 because I like that the horse is a part of the design. In 3-5 it looks like he was an afterthought, added to the top. I also like how he’s looking in to the design.
