Guy Style Down the Aisle

June 30th, 2009 @ 11:33 am by Mrs. Stiletto

Okay, I will admit it - my posts have been incredibly sexist. Where has the focus been on the guys’ attire?! The ladies tend to get a lot more screen time between dresses, shoes, hairstyles, jewelry, etc. Even though it is often the case that the guys don’t even think about what they’re wearing until 3 days before the wedding when they pick up their tuxes, their appearance is equally as important!

Of course, I wasn’t intentionally leaving the guys out in the cold… Mr. S and I just hadn’t had the time to pick out their tuxes. Since I had last Friday off, Mr. S and I ventured to a nearby MW Tux to pick everything out. I let Mr. S take the lead and choose what he liked best… I just sat back and nodded along!

He settled on this great Calvin Klein tux with a faint grey pinstripe. I love it! It’s also more slim of a fit, which is great, because Mr. S’s tuxes often end up being a little big and boxy on him. We were assured this would be perfect for him.

You can kind of see the pinstripe in this detail shot, but again, it’s a very unpronounced pinstripe. I think this is perfect because it gives it a little texture/interest without being too distracting.

Mr. S will be sporting a plain white vest (no pattern or detail) along with this tie that we’d recently purchased.

The rest of the guys will have plain black vests and ties. If we happen to find extra money lying around, we might get the guys black and white striped ties, but I don’t anticipate there being gobs of money just begging to be spent. And, we already got the groomsmen fabulous gifts, remember?

Did your guy take the lead on choosing his wedding day attire?

He told me he wants tails and an ascot. Other than that - he just doesn’t care, so I’m taking it from there.

I’m embarassed to say that, no, I didn’t really let him choose. He originally wanted to wear a tux, but I really wanted he and the groomsman to wear suits. So…we went with suits! Ultimately I think he liked it, and he would have worn whatever I wanted (I would have had to pick out the tux, too, had we gone that way).

I thought that FI would want to take the lead on his and the guys’ attire (since I’m not letting him take the lead on very much else! ;), but when I suggested he start looking around, he told me he would much rather I be involved in picking tuxes. I don’t know if it’s because he values my opinion, or if he’s afraid I’ll get upset if he picks the wrong thing. ;)

Mr Frenchie definitely took the lead on his attire. He researched suits and then showed me his favorite. I ended up being perfect :)

I love that tie! I went with Mr. Cloud and his best man to pick his stuff out, but I didn’t say much and he still picked a great tux. We had talked about colors before hand though, so there weren’t too many suprises.

Ok, dumb question. What is the difference between a tux and a three piece suit? Whether or not you wear a bowtie? the stripe along the side of the pants?

I thought tuxes all had to ahve a bowtie, a cummerbund, and the stripe along side the pants. Please help, because neither my fiance nor I are clear on this.

@denise:
I’ve never actually thought about it! This is what answers.com tells me:

1. A man’s dress jacket, usually black with satin or grosgrain lapels, worn for formal or semiformal occasions. Also called dinner jacket.
2. A complete outfit including this jacket, trousers usually with a silken stripe down the side, a bow tie, and often a cummerbund.

Totally classy! I love the subtle pinstripes.
