About Mrs. French Bulldog

Heat Stroke

June 30th, 2009 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. French Bulldog

This past weekend Mr Frenchie and I flew up to Northern California to visit his family and attend the wedding of my dear friends Alisa and Joe.

We had a blast and the wedding was beautiful! The details came together perfectly and really represented the couple’s “preppy” style.

The wedding was held at a Country Club where Joe used to be a golf instructor. Check out that cake and the Ring Bearer!

Girlfriends and their bling :)

The only hitch in an otherwise perfect weekend was the heat.

For an area that is normally in the high 70s this time of year, the 100 degree heat was a shocker. As sweat was dripping down my legs during cocktail hour I started to worry - what if it was this hot for our wedding? Although black, my dress for Alisa and Joe’s wedding was really lightweight. My beautiful Paigely? Notsomuch. I mean, it’s not crazy heavy or anything, but it is still a full length lace wedding dress.

According to weather.com, the average high in August is 89. I can live with 89, but I cannot live with the record high of 109! The website also says that July is the hottest month in Rancho Bernardo, so I’m hoping this bodes well for our late August wedding.

As much as I would like to say weather.com calmed my nerves, I am still worried it may be unbearably hot at our outdoor wedding. I’m thinking I should buy a back up reception dress, just in case. If I don’t end up needing it, I can just return it or sell it. One of the bridesmaid’s at Alisa’s wedding said she bought a back-up reception dress on sale at Neiman Marcus. Luckily she thought ahead, because at her wedding two weeks earlier, a heat wave hit in the normally cool town of Half Moon Bay, CA.

I would love to find the exact dress I wore this weekend in white, but unfortunately I bought that dress on sale at White House/Black Market and they never carried it in white. So, I checked out all the great suggestions everyone gave Miss Mary Jane and found a dress I really like.

Are you worried about the weather for your wedding? Have you considered a back-up dress?

Ooo, good thinking. I’d DIE if I was wearing a heavy, hot, thick dress on a sticky summer day. Your reception dress (if you end up needing it) will be super cute!!

we were talking about this at the meet up…you just never know what you’re going to get weatherwise in the bay area at any given moment.

i’m not particuarly worried as i really want an indoor ceremony/reception anyway so hopefully that will cut down on the worries.

I know it will be hot on our wedding day … that is why I opted for a short dress to begin with!

The weather here in november is so strange I just don’t know what to expect! Hot, cold, rain, dry, who knows! I’m just hoping its something managable! I’ll have my fingers crossed for no heat waves for you though!

Could be quite hot my way at the end of August — but once we’re at the reception, it’ll be cool and air-conditioned, so I hope I can stick it out if need be!

I’m getting married outdoors in October in Phoenix, I know it will be hot. We’re advising all our guests to dress for the weather not for a wedding. We’d rather have people more casual than sweaty!

NorCal weather itself is completly un-predictable, always catches me by surprise and I grew up here! Our wedding weekend last year was cold and foggy, on our actual wedding date it was 90 out (according to friends), in April.

Great idea on the cooler reception dress! All I have to add is: pack sunscreen!

My best friend got married in Massachusetts in June last year. It was the hottest weekend I have ever experienced - on the way to the salon to get our hair done, my car told me it was 105 degrees. It was unbearably hot, AND the AC broke during the reception, because it’s an older building and everyone was blasting their ACs. Eek.

I, of course, was wearing a three quarters length silk taffeta top and floor length skirt. My fiance kindly took pictures of the evolution of the HUGE sweat stain that formed along my back and butt during the ceremony. So gracious of him.

That’s my after party dress! Yay drss twins!

I went to a wedding two weekends ago and it was SWELTERING. We’re planning an outdoor wedding and reception a year from that date, so yeah, you could say I was concerned about the weather. PANICKED would be more like it!

We’re doing everything we can to make it work (tents, fans for guests, plenty of cool drinks, industrial sized fans under the tent) but I am stressed about it. I don’t want to change out of my gown that soon, but if I have to, I definitely will go ahead and make my (our!) second dress debut.

The weather plagues my thoughts, even so far in advance. Not only will it be June in hot, hot, hot, humid Georgia, but I’m frightened to death that one of those warm thunderstorms will come through, ruining our perfect garden wedding. That and the mosquitoes, oh heavens the mosquitoes!

agh, I’m having an outdoor wedding next June and based on the weather in the northeast this year, I’m more concerned about rain! It’s rained almost every single day in June this year…Outdoor weddings are tough because you have zero control over the weather! ARGH.

you know your black dress looks really similar to my JCrew hometown reception dress, which was also my backup dress in case of a heatwave. I think it’s called Rebecca…and I’ve seen a couple on the classified boards. That said I REALLY love the dress you have picked out above.

What a beautiful wedding. The details are so cute for a golf instructor and an all around preppy couple. I can understand your worry, but think you have a nice solution. BTW I was going to say that the dress you wore is so incredibly flattering on you.

Aaaaah… I went to high school with Alisa and Joe - small world! Always good to have back-ups in any department, even if they just end up being for piece of mind!
