Mrs. Ballet Flat, New Orleans Age and Occupation: 24, Geographic Information Systems Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, IT Analyst Engagement Date: March 16, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 25, 2008 Venue: St. Charles Borromeo Church/Jefferson-Orleans North About Me: I absolutely love wedding planning, spending time with Mr. Ballet Flat, various crafts, watching football, baking, pop music, bargain hunting and ice cream. My idea of a great date night is dinner and clearance shopping with Mr. Ballet Flat! I currently live below sea level in the suburbs near New Orleans, where I make maps all day, everyday for my job. I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with anything New Orleans related for our wedding, and I can't wait for the big day!

I’m Feeling Crafty!

June 30th, 2009 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Ballet Flat

You know, I’ve been pretty content post-wedding as far as no more planning goes. I know a lot of brides get withdrawals from anticipating the big day or even from planning. I mean, you plan for anywhere from months to a few years, and it’s all over in a day? That’s kind of a bummer, don’t you think? Well, I don’t miss the contracts, the timelines, worrying about how I will look. I don’t miss it at all.

What do you think I miss the most? C’mon hive, you know me… you know this!

I miss the crafts – the DIY projects, the ideas, the brainstorming… le sigh. I caught myself on my way to Hobby Lobby thinking about the bridal aisle and had to stop myself. Why do I still think about the bridal aisle? Ugh…

I even had to return some stuff to Michaels last week because I was over-ambitious in my DIY project ideas for the wedding. Oops! :)

It’s hard to move on from a list of projects to do. So, I brainstormed a little and made myself some projects to do!

I’m going to get back into cake decorating (for a hobby, not business)! Weddingbee PRO Melody from Sweet and Saucy Shop made me realize how much I miss it. Now, I’m not anywhere NEARLY as talented as she is, but I really had fun making cakes pretty, and the compliments were always great!

I enrolled in Wilton Course 3, which is tiered cakes and fondant, mainly.

I’ve taken a fondant and gumpaste course (along with buttercream/royal icing courses as well), but I feel like taking the last Wilton class will give me cake decorating closure, if that makes any sense. Ha!

Also, if that doesn’t keep me busy enough, I’m going back to my crafting roots – cross-stitching. I know, I’m going from 25 to 65 with this craft, but it’s really what got me into crafts. I used to do this for contests in 4-H (nerd alert) in middle school! My friend is expecting a baby girl in the late fall, and so, I volunteered to stitch up this cute piece of art for her!

I hope this fills the void in the crafty part of my brain that is sadly having withdrawals.

What are you DIY brides going to do after the wedding? Are you going to continue your wedding crafts as a business or start some new craft hobbies for leisure?

My wedding’s so far off that I haven’t started my DIY project yet, and I am ready to go! I can’t wait!

But I’m generally a crafty person - I knit, and I sew, so I can sometimes get my crafty outlet there :)

Im really looking forward to getting ourselves organized in general. Our office is a complete disaster, so I’m really excited about getting some cabinets and getting things together in that aspect. Our office is the one thing my fiance and I really haven’t combined yet, so it’ll be exciting to be able to file all our personal stuff (CC’s, tax info, etc.) in the same folders :)

Then, we’re looking forward to everyone else’s weddings in our family. We were the first to get married, and we have LOVED planning our own wedding, so we’re excited to see what else everyone does. Then, of course, traveling a lot, too :)

I used to do cross stitching in high school! I definately got laughed at but every year, I won awards at the state Latin convention for my mythology designs. Yes, I said Latin … I’m a dork!

Since I’m not sure on any wedding details yet, I’m channeling my DIY energy into my best friend’s baby shower!

I just started making my own jam! Now that will make a 27 year old feel 65.

I’ll probably keep the Gocco in rotation by printing up some Thank You cards. After that, who knows? I might be sick of crafting!

Oh oh! I’m 65 too! I love to cross stitch! As far as after the wedding I’m gonna make a shot at my first scrapbook but we will see how that goes. I’ve also got a few after projects lined up that will hopefully keep me busy!

I hear ya, Mrs. BF! It’s barely been two weeks and I’m itching to craft again. I’ve also been shaking up the family tree. More on that later, though! :o)

I’m with you! I totally don’t miss the thematic cohesion of “the wedding” that used to dominate all my craftiness though. I’m enjoying doing small scale crafts where I get to enjoy that sense of “task accomplished” graitification more quickly than having to wait for a wedding day to enjoy them! I have been handcrafting our thank you cards and our parent/grandparent albums and that has filled my project void….plus, secretly I still get my wedding crafty love-on for a few more months because my MOH is getting married in August. I got to do some tea party bridal shower invitations over the last two weeks too:-)

Oooo I have been dyeing to take a Wilton class. Me and my mom keep talking about it. We were going to learn for my sister’s shower, but got too busy.

I hope you do a post to share the experience!

As for crafts, I will definitely be continuing after the wedding, I’m even learning new techniques which will be fun for the future! My new favorite is embossing.

I’m worried about missing the crafts, too! I’m putting together our own albums and scrapbooks, so that should keep me busy for at least a couple of months, I hope!

I think I may venture into photography a bit since I seem to have a natural talent for it (that plus a few years of modeling will help). I won’t turn it into a full on business or anything, but maybe if I get good enough, I’ll do little sides jobs to support my reporter’s measly paycheck.

I hope you stay busy with new found crafting!

I love to sew, and always seem to have a list of stuff to make - I’ve had fabric for a blazer for over a year, and I need to make new Tae Kwon Do uniforms. I also cross stitch! But I think I bit off more than I can chew with my current project, as I’m sure it will take years to complete!

I might die when the crafting is done! Okay not really, I’ll probably keep myself busy planning my cousin’s wedding next fall! After that…who knows!

Planning our August reception has kept the post-wedding blues away. Shew! :)

Ohh…I love cross-stitching! My grandma taught me when I was young and I love doing it. It’s so relaxing.
