Mrs. Bee's Picture
Mrs. Bee, New York Age and Occupation: 29, Weddingbee Publisher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Internet Engagement Date: May 7, 2004 Wedding Date: March 5, 2005 Venue: Westside Loft, New York About Me: Yes, my name really is Bee! I love my blogging, wikis, and tabasco sauce!
About Mrs. Bee

My very dear friend Sophia is planning her entire Los Angeles wedding in only 3 months.  I’m devastated I won’t be able to attend, so I’m trying to help her plan as much as I can from afar by sending her inspiration pictures and vendor referrals, calling in favors from peeps I know in the industry, and taking care of the little details so she won’t have to worry about them at all.

This past weekend I created a care package for her that included an emergency kit and bathroom basket.  Though there is a lot of product overlap, the bathroom basket may be at the venue ahead of time while Sophia is getting ready at a hotel room, so I thought I’d cover my bases and get doubles of most things.  I’ve only included pricing once when I divided products up, and items without prices are things I had around our apartment.  Here’s a breakdown of exactly what I included and what everything cost!

Emergency Kit

Pharmacy

  • Johnson & Johnson First Aid Kit (band aids, gauze, antiseptic wipes)  - $0.99
  • Advil - $1.99
  • Tylenol - $1.79
  • Tums - $0.97
  • Immodium AD - (pricing in bathroom basket)
  • 2 Alka Seltzer packages
  • 2 Dayquil
  • Visine - $1.99
  • Bee MD Cough Drops

Hair

  • Bobby Pins & Hair Pins (pricing in bathroom basket)
  • Brush & Comb - $3.69
  • Hair Elastics
  • Hairspray (from Hallak Cleaners’ Kit)

Beauty Products

  • Sample Clinique Happy (I wore it on my wedding day)
  • Neutrogena Blotting Sheets - $6.49
  • Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder - $0.99
  • Purell - $1.59
  • Aveeno Hand Lotion (from Hallak Cleaners’ Kit)
  • Secret Antiperspirant - $1.19

Dental/Food

  • Wisp disposable toothbrush
  • Orbit Gum - $0.97
  • Reach Dental Floss - $1.29
  • Altoids
  • Granola Bar - $0.89
  • Luna Bar - $0.99

Tools:

  • Safety Pins in assorted sizes including two big ones in case her bustle breaks
  • Hallak Cleaners Bridal Emergency Kit that I got in a gift bag (includes: sewing kit w/ needles, threads, buttons, snaps, tape measure, scissors, nail clipper & file, pearls, sequins, buttons, snaps, adhesive strips, tissue, lint roller, dry stick spot cleaner, 2 pre-spot formulas, scented sachet)
  • Tide to go Pen - $3.99
  • Wine Away Red Wine Stain Remover Emergency Kit - $4.99 (on sale)
  • Crayola Chalk (to cover stains on wedding dress) - $1.19
  • Static Guard - $2.49
  • Packing Tape - $3.79
  • Double Sided Tape - $4.79
  • Instant Hem & Cuff Fabric Tape - $2.99
  • Crazy Glue - $2.79
  • Sharpie, Pen, Post-it Notes
  • Q-tips - $0.79
  • Artbox - $23.84 from Amazon.  I liked that it was lightweight, clear, and she can use it to store makeup after the wedding.
  • Paperbride Tip Kit

Total Cost for Emergency Kit: $75.68

Bathroom Basket (there is only one bathroom)

  • Tampax Tampons - $3.99
  • Carefree Pantyliners - $1.29
  • Pads
  • First Aid Kit - $0.99
  • Brush/Comb - $3.69
  • Nail Clippers - $1.79

  • Safety Pins in assorted sizes - $2.99
  • Arrid Deodorant (spray because who wants to share a gel or solid) - $4.99
  • Kiwi Shoe polish - $5.49
  • Dep Gel - $1.29
  • Tresemme Hair spray - $0.99
  • Axe Body Spray - $1.99
  • Shout Wipes - $1.69
  • Q-tips - $0.79
  • Advil - $1.99
  • Tylenol - $1.79
  • Altoids - $1.99
  • 2 packs Orbit Gum - $1.94
  • Reach Dental Floss - $1.29

  • Lint Roller - $1.99
  • Static Guard - $2.49
  • Basket (from BBB) - $14.08
Total Cost for Bathroom Basket: $89.23

Items may cost more because I bought everything in Manhattan at Bed Bath and Beyond and Rite-Aid, and I didn’t bargain shop at all.  I did want to include some corsage pins in the emergency kit, but I’ll send them along when I come across them.  Now I just need to wrap these carefully in saran wrap so they don’t shift too much in transit.

Is there any must have that I’m forgetting?

I have to say that I went to a wedding this past weekend that had an unexpected rain storm during the outdoor cocktail hour … all of the women flocked to the bathroom for bobby pins, elastics, and hairbrushes to find … NOTHING! gasp! haha, I immediately thought to myself, “well someone wasn’t reading their Weddingbee!” Great package Mrs Bee!

I’m so going to save this list. We added Purell, sunscreen and mosquito repellent to our bathroom baskets, but we’re getting married outside!

That is such a great gift! One final thing i might toss in, depending on whether or not your friend is wearing pantyhose for her wedding, is an extra set of pantyhose. After a day of running around and dancing, you’re bound to get a snag or two.

Sounds like you’ve got it covered, Mrs. Bee! The only thing I could think of would be to add a couple granola bars or apples in case someone needs to get their blood sugar up.

I just posted on my blog about the most amazing thing I saw this weekend: A red wine stain completely removed from a pair of seersucker shorts!! http://crosscountrywed.blogspot.com/2009/06/wine-away.html

If you are going to have red wine served, WineAway is my new “must have” … they have to-go emergency kits too!

I love that I sound like an infomercial right now.

WOW! That is the king of bathroom baskets! The only thing I might add is a package of earring backs. I dropped one of mine down the sink as a bridesmaid once and had to use a pencil eraser to hold the earring in place. :)

I can think of one thing you forgot—clear nail polish in case of nylon runs…. but other than that this is great.

@Miss Mouse:
@h: there is a granola bar, luna bar, and clear nail polish in there!

@ramosianchica: this is a coed basket, but you can put all the male items in a separate basket just for the gents!

@GaBGal: I looked for the mini version and couldn’t find it. I use it at home and love it!
