Mrs. Ballet Flat, New OrleansAge and Occupation: 24, Geographic Information Systems AnalystFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, IT AnalystEngagement Date: March 16, 2008Wedding Date: May, 2009Blogging Since: September 25, 2008Venue: St. Charles Borromeo Church/Jefferson-Orleans NorthAbout Me: I absolutely love wedding planning, spending time with Mr. Ballet Flat, various crafts, watching football, baking, pop music, bargain hunting and ice cream. My idea of a great date night is dinner and clearance shopping with Mr. Ballet Flat! I currently live below sea level in the suburbs near New Orleans, where I make maps all day, everyday for my job. I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with anything New Orleans related for our wedding, and I can't wait for the big day!
I am such a procrastinator. I ended up making these programs the week of the wedding, and I really didn’t dedicate much effort to these. I just knew I had a bunch of teal scraps from our pocketfolds, and thought that I could pull off a layered program with this.
So, here is how they came out. I will explain my mistakes in this post, since these were not perfect, just in case someone would like to benefit from my mistakes.
Supply list:
1 pkg. 65 lb. ivory cardstock (found at Office Depot)
Thicker cardstock paper (105 lb. or heavier) cut to 4″ x 9/9.5″
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa FeAge and Occupation: 25, Magazine EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting GuideEngagement Date: April 28th, 2008Wedding Date: October 2009Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, ColoradoAbout Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
You’re not going to believe this, but we ended up choosing invitation two. I loved the first invitation featuring Mr. CB’s barn, but he begged to differ. He likes things centered and clean. Plus, he liked the birds. We tried several other variations on the invitation featuring Mr. CB’s horse, but he really liked the birds.
When Mr. CB has input on something, I try my very best to listen and accommodate. Most everything in the wedding has been my decision (not because I’m selfish but because Mr. CB doesn’t care about ranunculus and flower girl dresses) so when he does care about something, I want to make it happen.
From the version you saw, we played with fonts, and here’s what we finally came up with. We changed the color of our names and made the final line, “BBQ, Beer, and Bluegrass To Follow” bolder and matching the stencil-y font of the “and” that sits between our names. I think the bolder font brings out the bird’s wings.
Mrs. Star, New York CityAge and Occupation: 22, ActressFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Casting AssistantWedding Date: October 2009Venue: Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & TerraceAbout Me: I’m a professional actress who’s always had New York City in her blood and I'm finally getting the chance to make a home in Manhattan with my fiancé, my dog, and my big dreams! I love polka dots, craft projects, Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, and anything sparkly. I’m having a blast planning our elegant/dramatic/New York City/acting-themed/largely-DIY wedding and am thrilled to be the youngest current Miss Blogger!
I got several requests for a DIY tutorial for our boutonnieres and so I figured that I’d do my best to oblige, despite my initial reluctance, because, to be honest, they were mostly trial-and-error! Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the process, since I didn’t know I’d be blogging about them at the time, but I’ve tried to be as specific as I can be in my descriptions. And honestly, if I was able to pull this off, anyone can!
To start off, I’ll recap my supplies list:
Purple 3/8″ satin ribbon
Guinea feathers (I ended up using 12)
Miniature silk camellias, about 1″ across (18)
Black beaded rose
Silver pin backings
Also some things I already had in my supplies: Read more…
Christina Friedrichsen, Winsor, Ontario, CanadaVendor: Wedding WriterWebsite: Intimate WeddingsAbout Me: Christina Friedrichsen is the author of Intimate Weddings: Planning a Small Wedding that Fits Your Budget and Style and owner of IntimateWeddings.com. She wrote Intimate Weddings after planning her own 50-guest wedding. She wants other brides to feel confident in their decision to have an intimate wedding even if their ideas buck convention. She wants couples to feel a sense of validation and to hear about all the wonderful things a small wedding can offer them. IntimateWeddings.com provides brides with a slew of planning articles, as well as a place to find small wedding venues. The Intimate Weddings Blog is chock full of fresh ideas for planning a small wedding, as well as real weddings and a slew of creative DIY wedding ideas that cut costs without sacrificing quality.
Creating the wedding guest list is a breeze for some couples. For others it’s the source of some serious conflict.
The first thing to consider is whether you want a large wedding or one with a more intimate feel. Chances are you’ve chosen the latter and the task of creating your wedding guest list will be a little more challenging. (Can we really leave Aunt Hilda off the list?) However, first think about who you really want at your wedding.
Another factor that will come into play when creating your guest list is who’s footing the bill. If your parents are major financial contributors, then naturally they’ll have more say in who to invite. If you’re paying for the majority of your wedding you will have more control over the guest list.
Some questions to ask yourself when creating your guest list: Read more…
Mrs. Bunny, ColumbusAge and Occupation: 24, Associate Editor/ReporterFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, ReporterEngagement Date: September 23, 2008Wedding Date: July 2009Venue: Everal Barn, WestervilleAbout Me: Organized, but messy. I love art (all kinds). I don't have any secrets. I talk a lot and listen even more. I show love by baking. I'm timid by nature, but brave when it counts.
Mr. Bunny and I work at competing weekly newspapers, which makes it a little interesting trying to describe our work joys and frustrations without giving away too much before the paper comes out. In spite of that little hurdle, we've managed to build a pretty solid relationship in the short one-and-a-half years we will have been together when we tie the knot. I can't wait!
Mrs. Deviled Egg, PittsburghAge and Occupation: 27, Public RelationsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, AccountingEngagement Date: December 24, 2007Wedding Date: May, 2009Blogging Since: October 21, 2008Venue: Historic auditorium and meeting hall in one of Pittsburgh's commuter citiesAbout Me: I am obsessed with all things crafty, especially scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry-making & cake decorating. I also love being an aunt, wrapping presents, watching football (Go Steelers!), shopping at yard sales and consignment stores, procrastinating, singing and learning to play the guitar. When it comes to wedding planning, I'm excited about working on DIY projects and finding creative ways to stay under budget. Of course, nothing is more exciting to me than knowing that the wonderful Mr. Deviled Egg will be my husband.
Where I last left off, the girls and I were leaving the Matrix because we learned that there was karaoke going on at another club in Station Square. Dancing was fun, but the place was getting crowded and we were all ready to move on.
We ended up at the Green Room, a venue that usually houses comedians and open-mic nights. We quickly snatched up some song books and put in our requests.
While waiting, a girl got up on stage and noticed I was in my bachelorette garb. She called me up on stage with her, and I obliged. Little did I know, the next five minutes would be the worst, most awkward five minutes of the evening. If I could erase anything from the evening, what happened next would be it.

Mrs. Mouse, AustinAge and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/AttorneyFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil EngineerEngagement Date: December 19, 2007Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: Barr MansionAbout Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
Back when I thought my original dress was definitely “the one”, I went to try on veils at an independent bridal shop here in Austin. Although they didn’t have a ton of styles to try on, they offered custom orders for a pretty decent price. I decided on something that was halfway between the “Vegas veil” (a super short, two layer veil with tons of volume on top) and a simple cut-edge elbow length number, in ivory.
These two photos capture the look I was trying to go for: clean lines, simple and chic, with a bit of fullness at the top. You could call it that “fifties” pouf.
Mrs. Mary Jane, Grand Forks, NDAge and Occupation: 26, Instructional DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lead ProgrammerEngagement Date: February 28, 2009Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: City HallAbout Me: I'm a career woman on the surface and a homemaker at heart. I love fast cars and high heels, and my favorite food is cake. Mr. Mary Jane and I are both full-time employees and students, and we just bought our first house. We love to curl up on the couch with buttery popcorn, Sour Patch Kids, and the latest Netflix arrival -- whenever we can get a break from everyday life.
Join me now for part 3… the calling of the “B-List” Courthouses.
We thought our venue would be simple. Courthouses are the standard “out” for brides and grooms tired of dealing with wedding stress and hounding by relatives. But I’ve been finding that in the rural northern US, it’s just not that easy.
Mr. MJ and I wanted something close to Grand Forks because it’s close to home, but also because we don’t want our photographer to have to travel far for us. We started out with twelve possible counties. Each county has a county seat, and each county seat has a courthouse.
Grand Forks was out (unless we wanted to get married at the Jail on a Monday). Polk was out because we just don’t want to do it in Polk (personal reasons; plus look at their boring old courthouse). Red Lake was our number 2 choice, but they were not able to confirm or schedule a wedding day unless we hired a private officiant. Pennington was out for the same reason as Red Lake (but also because its courthouse is — how to do I put this gently — pretty much butt-ugly). Read more…

In my free time, I love reading Martha mags, designing jewelry and making a pit-stop at Starbucks for a chai latte. I'm also a chocoholic at heart and my family drools over my homemade truffles.
If I could find Marty McFly, I’d hop in the DeLorean DMC-12 and go back in time. Not far back… back to June 20th. The day before our first anniversary. Sigh.
Mrs. Penguin here! If you’ve perused the Weddingbee Gallery recently, you might have noticed reader msblossom’s absolutely gorgeous wedding pictures! I couldn’t get them out of my mind! I finally contacted her in hopes that she would be so gracious to share her wedding with the hive… and luckily, she said yes! Without further ado, here’s Jade (aka msblossom) with her wedding story! Throughout the week she’ll share with you all the awesome details of her gorgeous wedding to her husband Ron. Please join me in welcoming Jade to the hive this week!
~~~
I’m very honored and excited to share with you how the various ideas for the wedding came together. I will begin the series by introducing ourselves so you have a better idea of who we are and how we decided on our wedding style.
My husband is Ron and my name is Jade. We met in a college programming class. We have very different personalities, yet we are alike in many ways. I’m very outgoing and a talk-box, whereas Ron is quiet and reserved. Together, we are a bit nerdy and very conservative. I like to do creative things and sometimes have a hard time controlling my creative ideas, while Ron is very logical and witty in his own way.
After we got engaged I became the “logical” one and didn’t want to waste money on a wedding. I wanted to save our money and buy a house instead. Ron wanted a house too, but really wanted to have a wedding so we could have great memories later to look back on.
