I recently completed the dreaded task of learning how to use my Gocco. I bought the thing months ago, and until recently, it’s just been collecting dust on our guestroom floor. However, I got inspired to do a trial run to make cards for my two flower girls. The girls already know I want them to be flower girls (and they are very excited about it!), but I wanted to send them “Will you be my flower girl?” cards anyway. I still regret not doing something special for my bridesmaids—at the time I picked them, I had not yet discovered there was a protocol for asking your best pals to be your ’maids. Ah, well.
My two lovely FGs are my cousin’s two daughters—they’re five and six years old and way too cute for words. I know that they recently got to go to Disney World, and while there they got princess makeovers. They loved it, so I wanted to make cards for them that were inspired by this princess theme.
I know that in the past I have heard that there are great Gocco tutorials on YouTube and Flickr. But for some reason until now I was too lazy to go and find them. So for all you would-be-crafters out there, I am embedding the video tutorials, parts one and two, that I found particularly helpful in using my B6 Gocco. I’m pretty sure the PG-5 works similarly.
My sister and grandmother will be throwing me and my bridesmaids a luncheon the day before the wedding. I am really excited for the event. I think it will be sweet and fun, and exactly what we need to kick off the weekend. We decided on an adorable location. We will be having a “tea”, complete with scones, cucumber sandwiches, and hats. Yes, I said hats!!

I decided to design the invitation and would love advice from the hive on what invitation you all like best. It is so fun making all of these invitations!!!

I have been excited to write a post about our wedding signage, because it touches on so many different aspects of our wedding!
Up until this point, the only thing that had graphics exactly matching our invitation was the backdrop for the photobooth. I decided to give a shout out to the invites on our signature drink menu. I say signature “drink” instead of signature cocktails, because we included two beers on the menu:

Mr. Taffy is a huge beer fan, so when we realized that we could have Oberon and Two Hearted Ale on tap from the Michigan based Bell’s brewery, we decided to order it right away. I had fun playing on words with “Wedding Bells Ale”, but didn’t have to make up a cute name for “Two Hearted Ale”… it already had the “aww” factor. ![]()

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
“Find something borrowed.”
This pesky three-word sentence has been staring back at me from our to-do list for several months. The line once included “old”, “new”, and “blue” as well, but I’ve edited out these adjectives as each item joined my ensemble.
We loved our save-the-dates so much, that we decided to hire Sarah Parrott to design our invitation suite as well. After stumbling across her blog, A Homegrown Wedding, I feel like she gets our vision even more now. We have very similar taste. Now, onto the invitations…
They will have about five parts to them. Five! I know, that’s a lot. 1) An invitation card, 2) A map, 3) An RSVP card + envelope, 4) A hang tag attached to raffia, and 5) some will have a rehearsal dinner invitation.
In designing these, I really want them to seem connected to our save-the-dates and feel similar to our inspiration stationery. One of the ways we’re doing this is to include another drawing from my very talented husband-to-be, Mr. Cowboy Boot. If ya’ll remember, he drew the horse that adorned our STD postcard. This time, the drawing is of a barn since that’s what our reception will be.

Mr. CB’s barn drawing
And, while I tried to get Mr. CB to pen some barn swallows and more horses, illustrating wedding invitations doesn’t make him very excited. Thus, I turned to Ms. Parrott to find some coordinating images to use throughout our suite. Here’s what she came up with:

Ever since Miss Duckling introduced us to the Cricut, I’ve been beyond intrigued. I’ve come to realize that I’m not THAT into crafts unless it involves some kind of neat gadget (see Gocco). I sat on my desire for some time. I really had no reason to get one. But my girlfriend is getting married in October and asked me to help her with her paper stuff, and another friend asked me to make some stationery for her, and we’re throwing a shower at my place, and all of a sudden my excuses to get one were multiplying. Last week I finally bit the bullet and bought one! And I CAN’T believe I didn’t get one in time to utilize it for my own wedding. Boo-urns. Ah well.
Miss Duckling showed off her super duper cute save the dates using the Cricut, so I thought I’d make some stationery for a friend as my first project. I bought the Cricut Expression, which is the mac daddy of the Cricut machines. After regretting not buying a larger model Gocco, I decided I wouldn’t risk the same regrets with the Cricut and bought the largest format machine out of all the Cricut models. If you search, you can find some great deals around the web. Anyhoo, on to the project…
Remember when I wrote about our wedding colors here? Well, I’ve had a slight change of heart.
I’ve been going back and forth (as evidenced here) on whether to include my all-time favorite color—pink—in our wedding. I just assumed that my manly future hubby wouldn’t be okay with having pink as one of our colors. Plus, my favorite shade of pink is fuchsia. Hot pink doesn’t exactly mesh with an outdoor autumn wedding. But still, I kept fantasizing about all things pink (to the point that I haven’t committed to any wedding color-related purchases in fear of my internal doubt) and finally decided to do something about it today.
Armed with inspiration photos of pink weddings, I sat Mr. Lab down and asked him his opinion on including the color in our wedding. I showed him an inspiration board that featured my next favorite shade of pink: “dusty” pink. And this board also included our other wedding colors we’ve already picked out: chocolate brown and champagne!
I was ready for the battle.
What could I possibly be referring to? Well, wedding announcements! You see, Senora Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City” once called the New York Times Weddings and Celebrations section “the single heterosexual woman’s sports pages”.
I LOVE looking at the New York Times wedding announcements. I don’t know how I started to read them, but all I know is that it satisfies my nosy streak each week.

Every flower girl is adorable. But not every bride is lucky enough to have a flower girl who is the love of her life.
That’s right, the mister knows that my two little sisters mean the world to me. And does it get any cuter than my little sister in that poufy pink dress? I don’t think so. Hers will be in lavender, but you get my point.

And my baby sister (who’s just about to turn 1) also got a gorgeous little dress, but she will be too young to walk her own way down the aisle even by the time the wedding comes around.
My beautiful flower girl had the whole bridal salon at Macy’s oohing and aahing over how beautiful she was. The only snafu?

… Ms. Joey will find wedding inspiration.
Mr. Joey got a grant thing from the Gilder Leherman Institute of American History to spend a week in Washington D.C. studying the 1960s. While it doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing to most, he’s really excited about it and I’m really excited he’s excited.
With him gone, I’m free to spend as much time on the internet as I want. Saturday night was no exception. I went hunting for more table number inspiration and stumbled upon my inspiration for our wedding.

So, ya wanna know why I decided to be Miss Bunny, rather than somebunny else?
Psst … come here! … I’ll show you! …
This past weekend, three of my wonderful aunts threw me my very first bridal shower. It was held at the Knollwood Country Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, and let me tell you, this was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL location!
Check it:

Gorgeous, right?
So, two of my bridesmaids and I set off early so we would have plenty of time to get from the city up to the shower. Well, like the best laid plans, this completely fell through when we ran into terrrrrible traffic north of the city.
