From the beginning, I knew I wanted to do the flower centerpieces myself. I love flowers, and in another life I would have loved to be a florist. My plan is to head down to Pike Place Market or a store with an amazing flower selection (Trader Joe’s or Metropolitan Market) the day before the wedding and pick up flowers for my bouquet and for my MOH’s, as well. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, except that I wanted it to be simple (easy to make with clean lines) and modern.
Then I saw this, and fell in love.

It’s perfect.

There are a few things I MUST have at my disposal on our wedding day…
#1 - Mr French Bulldog - Hello, we can’t have our wedding without this guy!

Mr French Bulldog very excited our first time celebrating his birthday.
But since he doesn’t fit in my clutch, I’ll just talk about these things…

While planning out our invitations with Ms. Sarah Parrott (our stationer), I stumbled across her fairly new blog, Homegrown Wedding. First, I had no idea that she was engaged, but now that I know she’s scoping for inspiration, I’ll be checking her site often. It’s adorable. Here are some of my favorite inspiration photos she’s collected:
Dahlias from Country Living
Decor from Farmhouse Wares
As some of you may remember, I was slobbering over this lovely cupcake stand from Martha Stewart. I’ve actually decided to take a different tact with cupcakes, which I’ll blog about at a later time. Either way, I have been thinking about what I could do to add a little sumthin’ sumthin’ to them.
I stumbled onto the idea of cupcake flags. This is most definitely something you can DIY, and I am sure there are many of you out there who will be planning on doing so. For those that like to outsource like me, there are some options out there on Ye Olde Etsy that will save you a bit of time.

We’re excited to introduce our newest round of icons: Weather & the elements! We’ve been doing several rounds of foods and animals lately, and thought it was a good time to switch it up! Check out these great icons that our talented artist, Irene, made for us! Which is your favorite? I’d have to say that I love Miss Sunbeam—she’s so sassy!

We’re always brainstorming new and future generations of bees. We’re currently throwing around ideas for a sea creature generation and a junk food generation! If you have any great ideas, we’d love to hear them!
Speaking of future generations, May was an exciting month for us—8 bees got married! So, we’re looking for brides (and grooms!) to follow in their footsteps. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill! If you’re a blogger getting married between now and February 2010, check out our application guidelines and submit your application today! We can’t wait to hear from you!
{Tell me you loved the movie “Adventures in Babysitting” as much as I did. Yes, the one back in the ’80s with Elizabeth Shue. When I moved to Chicago, I suddenly understood the whole drive-into-the-scary-city premise. Anyhoo…}
So, armed with my newly-married force field (ya know, the one keeping away normal frustration, at least until the word “husband” doesn’t seem so mind-blowing), I headed happily off to the Social Security Administration and DMV, armload of paperwork in hand.
Side note 1: I keep all “important documents” in a little zippy waterproof folder. When I need to do something official, I grab the whole zippy folder. Didn’t make it clear I needed an original birth certificate, Miss Snooty Government Gatekeeper? Well, here you go! Think I don’t have a copy of my very first voter registration card? HA! Proved you wrong! Yea, I’m a dork.
Side note 2: I didn’t head off to change my name as happily as I might have suggested. I’m still slightly ambivalent. But I want my kids to have the same last name as my husband and me, so I’m going with the Band-Aid Theory on this one (rip it off before you have time to dread it). On the plane home from our fabulously lazy honeymoon, I asked Mr. Cheese to indulge me by outwardly and overtly acting like this was the best darned thing I could do to show my love for him. He obliged, offering to take me out for drinks to celebrate (though we instead broke out the new blender and made our very first batch of pina coladas).
Armed with the second Twilight book, I waltzed into the Social Security Administration. In my state, you start there, and the receipt from your transaction is a requirement at the DMV. No problem. 45 minutes and a friendly chat with the helpful name-changer later, I had the slip of paper declaring my new identity:

Considering the we’re getting married NEXT weekend (yikes!), I figure it’s about time that I start working on our programs. Last weekend (in addition to hair and makeup trials, finishing the aisle runner, and stocking up on OOT bag goodies) I did just that.
With a couple of fabulous inspiration examples to work from, I set to designing a pocket-sized program that would fit right in with our silhouette-sprinkled wedding details. Here are the images that got my creative juices flowing.

One day I started doodling some monogram ideas in the little notebook I keep and stumbled across a design I really liked. Mr. Bunny and my mother responded really positively to it, so I thought I’d see what I could do about messing with it in Adobe Illustrator.
Here’s the original:

I can’t show you the (very sad) Illustrator version I ended up with after working on it for a few hours. I was so disappointed and frustrated. I knew the basics of Illustrator. I figured I could make it work, but I was VERY VERY wrong.
When I was at the end of my rope, my mom kicked in with her common sense. “Why don’t you call your Aunt Susan?”
DUH.

When I left off, I had spent a grand total of $145.11 on gifts for my 5 bridesmaids, or $29.00 per girl. This included earrings, clutches I’m making, and vintage hankies. This of course leaves me with the necklaces left to share!
I was in Venice last summer and thought I would take advantage of having access to so much Venetian glass and buy necklaces for the girls there in the color green I’d chosen. Easier said than done. I struggled to find enough of “the” green. I ended up with three large glass beads and two already made necklaces… but they were all different colors and just didn’t feel right.
So, of course, I turned to Etsy (shocker!). I found this great deal… a half pound of glass beads in different shapes, all in the exact shade of green I needed. AND they were only $4.00, plus $2.95 shipping. Score! So I bought them and then saw that they’re itty bitty… hence the good deal.

I never thought I’d buy my dress so early in the game! Don’t get me wrong, though - I was so happy I got everything I wanted in a wedding dress for well within my budget. The “problem”, though, is that I never got closure with my first dress love.
Isn’t that so silly?! How can someone want closure with a dress? I swear I’m not crazy - I just really like nice fabric.
The timing for my second-guessing couldn’t have been better. My dress arrived in the mail at the end of June (no 6-month wait period! hurrah!), and Mr. Cubbie and I were headed up to Boulder for a 4th of July wedding soon thereafter.
You see, in Denver there existed not only a Monique Lhuillier salon (so I could see what the original Miranda and Scarlet gowns felt like), there was also a Priscilla of Boston salon. I could finally try on the POB 2902!
Even better was that the girlfriend of Mr. Cubbie’s best man was coming to the wedding, too. Even though we’d only spent a little time together, she was excited to go wedding dress shopping with me!
Mr. Cubbie was a groomsman in our friends’ wedding, so our time in Boulder was, for the most part, not very abundant. I ended up having to cancel my appointment at Monique Lhuillier, but that didn’t really matter - I already owned one of her gowns!
Priscilla of Boston was definitely happening, though.
Mr. Bear Cub doesn’t want to see me in any wedding dress before the wedding, so if you’re reading, Mr. Cubbie, stop right now!
